Can the Raptors avoid the sweep is the $60 million dollar question? Cavs are on a roll

After a week of resting after the sweep of the Atlanta Hawks, my Cleveland Cavs finally figured who they’ll be facing in the conference finals & nobody expected this opponent. They were the 2nd best team in the Eastern Conference, but nobody gave them a shot to reach it this far because of youth & inexperience. However, that’s why they play the games. Before we break down the East finals, who would had thought the Thunder would steal home court from the Warriors in game 1! That had definitely caught my attention & I had to start blogging about the East after the game ended. Let’s break it down

Eastern Conference

1)Cleveland vs 2)Toronto- After another 8 day lay-off, the Cavs finally got an opponent to face other than themselves in practice. In the last sweep of the Hawks, they went 3 pt crazy, setting a record for most 3 pointers made in a 4 game series w/77. Kevin Love & Kyrie Irving were proving what could had been if they were both available for last yr.’s finals along w/ Lebron. For the Raptors, nobody including myself didn’t think they would had beaten the Heat because of lack of playoff experience, their big man Valanciunas being injured (out for game 1, doubtful for game 2) & both Kyle Lowry & Demar DeRozan’s shots weren’t falling. But in the last 2 games, they sorta broke out their slump & Bismack Biyombo provided energy, spark, & toughness to set off the fact Valanciuanas wasn’t playing. The Raptors went 2-1 on the Cavs in regular season w/ Lowry getting his career high in points on them w/ 51. However, the lights are brighter & the Cavs can see they are healthy & are 4 more wins away to making a return to the Finals & Lebron’s 6th straight finals appearance. My dad thinks Cavs in 6, but I say in 5, even though everyone is thinking another sweep.

That’s my time for this blog. Happy b-day shoutouts this week to Truly Odd, Karina Ousley, my girl Candis Madrigal, Mitchie Tista, Elaine Villa, Elaina Soto, Hector Ramirez, my WHS classmate Meranda De La O, Erica Calara, my cousin Ralph Jones, Bezalet Vasquez, my r&b chick Vanessa Loren, & my step sister Maya Grayson. Next time you’ll see the blog, we’ll be previewing the NBA Finals. Peace!!

The Warriors are on a historic run, but can the Thunder ruin those plans? #thisiswhyweplay

We’re at that halfway mark ladies & gents! We already have 3 teams who are 8 wins away from reaching their goal as champion. Since the last time I typed a blog, Steph Curry was the 1st ever unanimous MVP and returned from his injury, Scott Skiles resigned as Magic coach after 1 yr, & Chris Bosh lost his chance to play postseason basketball. I know the Heat could use some big bodies after Whiteside’s knee injury & he’s day to day. We’ll talk about the Eastern Conference when we get a chance. Let’s talk about the conference finals that’s already set.

Western Conference

1) Golden State vs 3) Oklahoma City- We knew the Warriors would be back in this position, but not that many thought they would be facing the Thunder. Most people, including myself thought this would be the Spurs in this spot, but the Thunder had other plans. The Warriors are coming a hard 5 game series vs the Trailblazers & they showed they click w/o Steph as Klay Thompson & Draymond Green stepped their games up. When the MVP returned, it was like nothing was missing. For the Thunder, people thought they were left  for dead after game 1 & some were thinking that it was over for Kevin Durant in a Thunder uniform. However, him along w/ Russell Westbrook showed that never say die attitude & some questionable lucky wins (game 2 & 4 anyone) to get the series. Also, give Billy Donovan some credit when he played both Kanter & Adams at the same time & rested Ibeka during some stretches. Expect some high scoring games & it’s going be fun to watch Westbrook & Steph go at for a series. I like the Warriors in 7.

That’s my time for this week. Happy , belated birthday shootout to my girl Vanessa Fernandez. Happy b-day shootouts this week to my girl Cassandra Chavez (see you tomorrow), Yolanda Garcia, Mary Bait Polanco, Maru Sanchez, Kimberly Bianchi, Klaudia Macias, my girl Samantha Jo Fox, David Sanchez, Charm Valenzuela, Darlene Rowley, Irene Anderson, Louis Romo, & Raquel Guzman. Next time I’m blogging, we’ll be talking about the next victim for my Cleveland Cavs & make sure you check out “Believeland” tomorrow night!! Peace!!

Raptors/Heat preview

Updated playoff brackets! 1st to 16 wins it all!

Finally, the last semifinal is set & it’s for the Eastern Conference! So far in the other semifinals, we saw the Cavs overcome an 8 day lay-off & grind out  a home win vs Atlanta, the Warriors still on their mojo even w/o Steph as they held served vs the Blazers, & the Thunder & Spurs are knotted up at 1-1, thanks to the wildest 13 seconds I ever seen in my life! Dion Waiters straight got away w/ a push off! Never mind that, let’s break down the remaining semifinals.

Eastern Conference

2) Toronto vs 4) Miami- For the 1st time since 2001, the Raptors got out the 1st round. However in game 7, it looked like they want to give the game away as they blew a 16 point lead & both Kyle Lowery & DeMar DeRozan were struggling w/ their shots. However, they were getting key contributions for individuals like DeMarre Carroll, Corey Joseph, UCLA’s own Norman Powell, & Jonas Valanciunas. For the Heat, I thought they were left for dead after being down 3-2 to Charlotte after winning the 1st 2 games in South Beach. However, in the game to save their season, Dwayne Wade put the team on his back w/ some clutch shots in the 4th & the deciding game, their experience just put the smash down on them. The Heat are facing a lithe situation involving Chris Bosh. He hasn’t played a game since the all-star break after suffering another blood clot incident. He was sidelined for the same thing last yr. He wants to play, but the Heat organization won’t let him, fearing another incident could be catastrophic. He says he feels fine & may get involved w/ the players union to seek justice. Bad timing & I hope this isn’t a distraction to this series. Fun part about this series is that Drake probably be in both the 6 & South Beach for these games (congrats on Views by the way). I like the Heat in 6 games because I don’t trust both Lowery & DeRozan if both their shots aren’t falling.

That’s my time for this blog! Happy birthday shootouts this week to Peter Antunez, my girl DJ Crystal Ellis, Deziree Juarez, my poke war buddy Veronica Madrid, Ilsie Guerrero, Vivan Garcia, my beautiful friend Lianna Ponce, Aurelio Vela, the homie Sammy Sam, Yvonne Gonzalez, Paulita Ram, & my girl Regina Cortez aka DJ Vixen. It’s also Cinco De Mayo weekend as well as Mother’s Day weekend, so happy mother’s day outta to all the mothers out there especially my mom Shannon! My thoughts also on Canelo vs Khan, it’s tough to choice. If Khan wins, that messes up the payday for Canelo/GGG! That’s all I have to say! Catch up w/ ya’ll when we starting discussing conference finals!! Peace!!

Blazers/Warriors preview

Expect this series to be exciting #ripcity #strentghinnumbers

Western Conference

1)Golden State vs 5)Portland- We have a surprising & fun 2nd battle here! The Warriors, who haven’t played since eliminating the Rockets in 5 finally get their opposition & are hoping that Steph Curry can get healthy soon to at least get back in game 2. He was suppose to miss 2 weeks, but I’m hearing he may be back sooner as you think. The Warriors stepped their game in his absence, especially Klay Thompson, who had 7 three pointers in both game 4 & the closeout game. For the Blazers, I called this series as they eliminated the Clippers in 6, even before the injuries to Blake Griffin & Chris Paul happened. Damian Lillard & CJ McCallum stepped up & give credit to Mason Plumnee, who channeled his inner Jerome Kersey (R.I.P.) & brought energy w/ his rebounding & passing skills. Question is can the Blazers get a split in the Bay before Steph Returns. The Blazers gave the Warriors their worst loss this season & Dame scored 51 in that game. Dame returns home as well! I like the Warriors in 6 games!!

Cavs/Hawks series preview

Cavs/ Hawks meet again in the postseason. Cavs swept them 4-0 last yr, what will the outcome be this yr!!

Man, it seems like it was a couple days ago, I was breaking down a Western Conference 2nd match-up between the Spurs & Thunder. Well surprise, I’m back to break down another series, this time from an Eastern Conference’s point of view. Before I start, I definitely gotta give shootouts to the Buckeyes who were selected in the 1st round of this yr.’s NFL draft (Joey Bossa, Ezekiel Elliot, Eli Apple, Taylor Decker, & Darron Lee) & a big “Dawg Pound” welcome to Corey Coleman. I’m glad they didn’t go offensive tackle shall we.

Eastern Conference

1) Cleveland vs 4) Atlanta- A rematch of last yr.’s conference finals in which the Cavs, who had lost Kevin Love already in the 1st round & Kyrie was banged up, still managed to sweep the Hawks 4-0. Funny part was that the Hawks were the top seed last yr. My Cavs are coming off a tough 4 game sweep of the Pistons with the Big 3 all healthy, averaged 80 pts & Kyrie Irving was the MVP of that series, taking the big shots & taking some pressure. I hope the week off doesn’t get them rust. For the Hawks, they finally got that road win needed to eliminate the Celtics in 6. The league’s no 2 defensive team played a mayor part holding the Celtics to 38% shooting during the series & it was a team effort from either Milsap, Bazemore, or Horford. The Cavs won the season series 3-0 winning each game by an average of 29 its, but postseason play is different. I like my Cavs in 6. I don’t think thy’ll sweep them again like last yr.

That’s my thoughts of this 2nd round series. Next time, we’ll blog, it’ll be about the remaining semifinals for the Eastedn Conference & Western Conference. Until then, I’m out. Peace!!

NBA Playoffs 2K16

Let the journey begin!! 1st to 16 calls themselves champions

I’m back ladies and gentleman. I know it’s been a while since I typed a blog. Had to let the Super Bowl breathe, so I decided to rest & chill until the NBA regular season end. It was a season of fun & milestones like the Warriors winning 73 games & the Spurs winning 65 games & nobody didn’t pay attention it because of Golden State taking everyone’s attention away. We also said goodbye to Kobe Bryant, who ended his career w/ 60 its in his final game ever. Like Frank Sinatra, he did it his way. Congrats to 20 great yrs. Next stop is the hall of fame. With that, let’s break down the 1st round shall we.

Eastern conference

1) Cleveland vs 8) Detroit- My Cavs are looking for a return trip to the Finals, but this time have a different result & win the title. Despite a coaching change (From Blatt to Lue) LBJ put up his usual numbers as well as Kyrie, who missed the 1st 2 months of the season recovering from his knee injury in the Finals. However, the major problem is will Kevin Love be that 3rd option & fit in as well can the bench play their part. For the Pistons, it’s been a while since they’ve been in the postseason (2009 to be exact). Stan Van Gundy’s 1st yr coaching them as well as being V.P. of basketball operations & they won 44 games. Reggie Jackson became a bonafide scorer, Andre Drummond made the all-star team & the acquisition of Tobias Harris played a major spark for this roster. The Pistons took 3 out of 4 from the Cavs, but I think their lack of playoff experience will get the best of them. I like my Cavs in 5 games. I don’t see a sweep here.

2) Toronto vs Indiana- The Raptors in my opinion, the most slept on team in the Eastern Conference. Other than the Splash Bros & Damian Lillard & C.J. McCollum, Demar DeRozan & Kyle Lowery has been an explosive backcourt & key contributions for Jonas Valaciunas & Luis Scola have played a major part. However, this young nucleus hasn’t won a playoff series yet. For the Pacers, they are like a Dr Jekyll & Mr. Hyde team to me. You have leadership qualities in Paul George & help in scoring w/ Monta Eliis & George Hill. However, like I said, you don’t know which Pacers team would show up. Something will have to give in this series. I like the Raptors in 6. They have to get over this hump.

3) Miami vs 6) Charlotte- A yr after Lebron left to return home, the  Heat are back in the postseason & they are the only team in my opinion in the East that could scare my Cavs in the postseason. Joe Johnson has been a great acquisition since the Nets bought out his contract, Hassan Whiteside is balling in his contract yr & you can never count out Dwayne Wade. It would had been nice if Chris Bosh was healthy (get well soon my G). For the Hornets, Kemba Walker has been a great scorer this yr, Al Jefferson has been a good compliment to him & Marvin Williams along w/ Jeremy Lin & Jeremy Lamb has been great pieces to this young squad. However, this team hasn’t won a playoff game in 14 yrs & the last time they were in the playoffs, they were swept by the Heat 2 yrs ago. Both teams split the season series 2-2 this yr, so it’s evenly match up here. Could Jordan have patience w/ the team losing another 1st round series? I like the Heat in 7.

4) Boston vs 5) Atlanta- Last yr, the Celtics were the 8th seed & got swept by the Cavs. This yr, they surprised me by getting this 4th seed. Isaiah Thomas became an all-star & Evan Turner along w/ Jared Sullinger makes think I’m watching Ohio St. basketball agin. For the Hawks, they were the 1 seed last yr, but had hit rough spots earlier in the yr, but got their ish together. The team effort of Horford, Teague, Bazemore, & Korver could scare anyone & Sepholoshia is healthy for this postseason , giving them that 3 & D guy they needed last yr. I can see this going 7 & it’s going to be tough to choose a winner. I like the Celtics in 7.

Western Conference

1) Golden State vs 8)Houston- The Warriors are on a history making run as a team & it’s been fun to watch. 73, Steph being the 1st player to make over 400 3 pointers, never lost back to back games, & their journey isn’t done yet. For the Rockets, rough season for them as James Harden started off slow, they fired McHale & Dwight Howard wasn’t healthy that much all yr. They had to back their way to clinch that final spot in the West, but this isn’t the same team that was in the conference finals last yr. I see the Warriors in 5 games because I know Harden doesn’t want to get swept out in the 1st round.

2) San Antonio vs 7) Dallas- Battle of Texas here. The Spurs had a quiet  67 win season & no one paid attention to them thanks to the Warriors. Kawahi Leonard stepped up his game to a MVP level & the acquisition of LaMarcus Aldridge played a major part, giving a lot of rest for Duncan. This team can go 10 deep. For the Mavericks, a lot of Dirk for this team, but Chandler Parson getting injured again hurts them. This is a veteran laced team w/ Deron Willams to help out Dirk & Wesley Matthews played his part. I was surprised he didn’t struggle since he was coming off an ACL injury to start the season. This could be a tough series, but I like the Spurs in 6.

3) Oklahoma City vs 6) Memphis- Billy Donovan will make his playoffs debut as coach of the Thunder. Both Kevin Durant & Russell Westbrook are healthy & speaking of Westbrook, congrats to him for tying Magic Johnson’s record for most triple doubles in a season w/ 18. We know Ibeka is the 3rd option, but the question for this squad is who’s the 4th, 5th, or 6th best guys on this team because in crunch time in the 4th qtr, it’s usually Durnat or Westbrook time. For the Grizzlies, they are coming in banged up. No Marc Gasol, no Mike Conley. No disrespect to Jrdan Farmer, who has two rings w/ the Lakers & is their point guard, but how can he slow down his former Bruins counterpart? At least they’ll still have that grind out style w/ Z-Bo, Lance Stephenson, & Tony “1st team defense” Allen. I can see the Thunder taking this in 6 hard fought games.

4) L.A. Clippers vs Portland- For the Clippers, this has to be their make it or break it yr. Ever since they acquired Chris Paul 4 yrs ago, they haven’t made it passed the 2nd round. Cp3 carried this team for most of the yr when Blake Griffin was out, but know he’s back. J.J. Reddick can be a deadly shooter, DeAndre Jordan protects the paint & the bench is finally decent w/ Pierce, Austin Rivers when he has his moments & Jamal Crawford. For the Blazers, honestly I thought they wouldn’t made the playoffs when they lost all those players (Aldridge, Matthews, Batum, & Lopez) to free agency, but Damian Lillard carried the team on his back & nobody expected CJ McCollum to ball out like that. Former Laker player Ed Davis gives them energy & they can go uptempo w/ the best of them. This could be a fun series & I’m calling my shot here: I like the Blazers to knock out the Clippers in 6 games.

That’s my time here. Happy birthday shoutouts to Steven Screws (I miss seeing the blog, bring it back), Carolina Garcia,  Champ Martinez (catch up w/ you later on today), the homie Liberations Mbe (thanks for the big gulp long island iced teas) & Maria Hodge. I’ll catch up w/ y’all when the 2nd round starts. Peace

Time for greatness

Kick back & embrace the Finals!! The best player vs the new face! #greatness

We have arrived people!! It’s the Finals people & we got the match that America wants to see.  They were the highly odds favorite according to Vegas before the postseason began , the 2 most popular teams in both the Eastern & Western Conference, & now they’re here. Without further adieu, let’s break down the Finals.

NBA Finals

1) Golden State vs 2) Cleveland- Both teams are making Finals appearances for the 1st time in a long time. The Cavs last Finals appearance was in 2007 when in Lebron’s 1st go around, he carried that team w/ not that much help to the dance until they got swept by the Spurs. The last time the Warriors made the dance, it was in 1975 & they swept the Baltimore Bullets 4-0 w/ Alvin Attiles as their coach & Rick Barry along w/ Jamal Wilkes were the stars. Cavs were 12-2 heading into the Finals while the Warriors are 12-3, almost identical. We have some interesting story lines in this series, especially with the star power of Lebron James & Stephen Curry. Lebron came back home & got the Cavs back in the dance while Steph pretty much became the new face of the NBA. He had the highest votes in the all-star game & his jersey sales were higher than Bron’s. This series has me torn because the hometown’s in the dance, but the “fam”s the opposition.  I just can’t wait for this series to start. I like the Cavs in 6. My reasons, the front court w/ Mozgov & Tristan Thompson to go along w/ Bron, the contributions of the supporting cast (Shump. JR, & Delly), & the health of Kyrie Irving. I hope the 9 days of rest heals him up. For me, I’m #ALLINCLE

This is one crazy week for me. Not only the Cavs are in the finals, but my niece Dejah Irving is graduating from Whittier High. Congrats & I know your mom & Terrance will be smiling down on you. Happy b-day shootouts this week to Maricruz Hernandez, Andrea Swindell, Precious Simmons, Joey Nunez, my kinfolk Kenneth Curry & Kurtis Curry, Ruben Waters, Pete Baez, Amanda Salas Perch, Jennifer Leduff, Romika Faniel aka Roe Bunnie, the homie David Chavez aka IllTekneek, Grace Moranga Lopez, Rachelle Shaw, Gracie Gonzalez, & Gina Bucci. Next time I’m hope I’m blogging about the Cavs as champs!! Peace y’all
