Let the journey begin!! 1st to 16 calls themselves champions

I’m back ladies and gentleman. I know it’s been a while since I typed a blog. Had to let the Super Bowl breathe, so I decided to rest & chill until the NBA regular season end. It was a season of fun & milestones like the Warriors winning 73 games & the Spurs winning 65 games & nobody didn’t pay attention it because of Golden State taking everyone’s attention away. We also said goodbye to Kobe Bryant, who ended his career w/ 60 its in his final game ever. Like Frank Sinatra, he did it his way. Congrats to 20 great yrs. Next stop is the hall of fame. With that, let’s break down the 1st round shall we.

Eastern conference

1) Cleveland vs 8) Detroit- My Cavs are looking for a return trip to the Finals, but this time have a different result & win the title. Despite a coaching change (From Blatt to Lue) LBJ put up his usual numbers as well as Kyrie, who missed the 1st 2 months of the season recovering from his knee injury in the Finals. However, the major problem is will Kevin Love be that 3rd option & fit in as well can the bench play their part. For the Pistons, it’s been a while since they’ve been in the postseason (2009 to be exact). Stan Van Gundy’s 1st yr coaching them as well as being V.P. of basketball operations & they won 44 games. Reggie Jackson became a bonafide scorer, Andre Drummond made the all-star team & the acquisition of Tobias Harris played a major spark for this roster. The Pistons took 3 out of 4 from the Cavs, but I think their lack of playoff experience will get the best of them. I like my Cavs in 5 games. I don’t see a sweep here.

2) Toronto vs Indiana- The Raptors in my opinion, the most slept on team in the Eastern Conference. Other than the Splash Bros & Damian Lillard & C.J. McCollum, Demar DeRozan & Kyle Lowery has been an explosive backcourt & key contributions for Jonas Valaciunas & Luis Scola have played a major part. However, this young nucleus hasn’t won a playoff series yet. For the Pacers, they are like a Dr Jekyll & Mr. Hyde team to me. You have leadership qualities in Paul George & help in scoring w/ Monta Eliis & George Hill. However, like I said, you don’t know which Pacers team would show up. Something will have to give in this series. I like the Raptors in 6. They have to get over this hump.

3) Miami vs 6) Charlotte- A yr after Lebron left to return home, the  Heat are back in the postseason & they are the only team in my opinion in the East that could scare my Cavs in the postseason. Joe Johnson has been a great acquisition since the Nets bought out his contract, Hassan Whiteside is balling in his contract yr & you can never count out Dwayne Wade. It would had been nice if Chris Bosh was healthy (get well soon my G). For the Hornets, Kemba Walker has been a great scorer this yr, Al Jefferson has been a good compliment to him & Marvin Williams along w/ Jeremy Lin & Jeremy Lamb has been great pieces to this young squad. However, this team hasn’t won a playoff game in 14 yrs & the last time they were in the playoffs, they were swept by the Heat 2 yrs ago. Both teams split the season series 2-2 this yr, so it’s evenly match up here. Could Jordan have patience w/ the team losing another 1st round series? I like the Heat in 7.

4) Boston vs 5) Atlanta- Last yr, the Celtics were the 8th seed & got swept by the Cavs. This yr, they surprised me by getting this 4th seed. Isaiah Thomas became an all-star & Evan Turner along w/ Jared Sullinger makes think I’m watching Ohio St. basketball agin. For the Hawks, they were the 1 seed last yr, but had hit rough spots earlier in the yr, but got their ish together. The team effort of Horford, Teague, Bazemore, & Korver could scare anyone & Sepholoshia is healthy for this postseason , giving them that 3 & D guy they needed last yr. I can see this going 7 & it’s going to be tough to choose a winner. I like the Celtics in 7.

Western Conference

1) Golden State vs 8)Houston- The Warriors are on a history making run as a team & it’s been fun to watch. 73, Steph being the 1st player to make over 400 3 pointers, never lost back to back games, & their journey isn’t done yet. For the Rockets, rough season for them as James Harden started off slow, they fired McHale & Dwight Howard wasn’t healthy that much all yr. They had to back their way to clinch that final spot in the West, but this isn’t the same team that was in the conference finals last yr. I see the Warriors in 5 games because I know Harden doesn’t want to get swept out in the 1st round.

2) San Antonio vs 7) Dallas- Battle of Texas here. The Spurs had a quiet  67 win season & no one paid attention to them thanks to the Warriors. Kawahi Leonard stepped up his game to a MVP level & the acquisition of LaMarcus Aldridge played a major part, giving a lot of rest for Duncan. This team can go 10 deep. For the Mavericks, a lot of Dirk for this team, but Chandler Parson getting injured again hurts them. This is a veteran laced team w/ Deron Willams to help out Dirk & Wesley Matthews played his part. I was surprised he didn’t struggle since he was coming off an ACL injury to start the season. This could be a tough series, but I like the Spurs in 6.

3) Oklahoma City vs 6) Memphis- Billy Donovan will make his playoffs debut as coach of the Thunder. Both Kevin Durant & Russell Westbrook are healthy & speaking of Westbrook, congrats to him for tying Magic Johnson’s record for most triple doubles in a season w/ 18. We know Ibeka is the 3rd option, but the question for this squad is who’s the 4th, 5th, or 6th best guys on this team because in crunch time in the 4th qtr, it’s usually Durnat or Westbrook time. For the Grizzlies, they are coming in banged up. No Marc Gasol, no Mike Conley. No disrespect to Jrdan Farmer, who has two rings w/ the Lakers & is their point guard, but how can he slow down his former Bruins counterpart? At least they’ll still have that grind out style w/ Z-Bo, Lance Stephenson, & Tony “1st team defense” Allen. I can see the Thunder taking this in 6 hard fought games.

4) L.A. Clippers vs Portland- For the Clippers, this has to be their make it or break it yr. Ever since they acquired Chris Paul 4 yrs ago, they haven’t made it passed the 2nd round. Cp3 carried this team for most of the yr when Blake Griffin was out, but know he’s back. J.J. Reddick can be a deadly shooter, DeAndre Jordan protects the paint & the bench is finally decent w/ Pierce, Austin Rivers when he has his moments & Jamal Crawford. For the Blazers, honestly I thought they wouldn’t made the playoffs when they lost all those players (Aldridge, Matthews, Batum, & Lopez) to free agency, but Damian Lillard carried the team on his back & nobody expected CJ McCollum to ball out like that. Former Laker player Ed Davis gives them energy & they can go uptempo w/ the best of them. This could be a fun series & I’m calling my shot here: I like the Blazers to knock out the Clippers in 6 games.

That’s my time here. Happy birthday shoutouts to Steven Screws (I miss seeing the blog, bring it back), Carolina Garcia,  Champ Martinez (catch up w/ you later on today), the homie Liberations Mbe (thanks for the big gulp long island iced teas) & Maria Hodge. I’ll catch up w/ y’all when the 2nd round starts. Peace
