Is the hype real for Mariotta?

How about that crazy 1st week to the season! We saw a lot of things like Brady & the Pats sending a message to everyone in the league, the Seahawks & Pete Carroll seem to can’t get things right in crucial situations, Rex letting the dawgs (the Bills) out on Luck & the Colts, the Giants brain fart in Dallas, Bryon Maxwell getting toasted by Julio Jones & the 49ers defense still strong despite all those missing pieces. I wonder what we have in store this week. Let’s break down week 2!!

Thursday

Denver vs Kansas City- AFC West rivals start off the week. The Chiefs surprised everyone w/ their performance in Houston. Alex Smith throwing 3 td passes, 2 of them to Travis Kelce ( can a wide receiver get some love) & their defense made it rough for Hoyer & them boys. For the Broncos, an ugly win at home vs the Ravens despite Peyton Manning not throwing a td pass on opening week for the 1st time since 2003. This is big for the Chiefs if they want to send a message to the AFC WEST. Chiefs are fg home faves. I like the Chiefs by a td. Gotta show some love to the homie Steven Rojo Jr. & his squad

Sunday

Detroit vs Minnesota- NFC North match-up here. Both teams are trying to shake off losses. The Lions gave up 404 yards passing from Phillp Rivers & they couldn’t get Calvin Johnson going in San Diego, a place they could never win at. For the Vikings, the return of Adrian Peterson was a dud as he struggled vs the only team that gives him trouble in the 49ers & pretty much the Niners rather took their chances w/ Bridgewater beating them than Peterson. The play calling was suspicious as well. Both teams can’t go 0-2 after this since they are in the same division w/ Green Bay.  The Vikings are fg home faves. I like the Vikings to redeem themselves at him & cover the spread.

Randy:

Tampa Bay vs New Orleans- NFC South rivals who want to shake off losses, especially Winston & the Bucs, who were smacked in the mouth from the get go. I know Winston didn’t want to be in the same category w/ Doug Williams in having his 1st pass as a Bucaneers qb resulting in a pick 6. It’s called growing pains folk. For the Saints, the Cards had them from the get go & the Saints could never shake that “struggle on the road” label. Must win for both teams because they don’t to play catch-up to either Carolina or Atlanta. Home opener for the Saints & they are 10 pt home faves. I like the Saints to win & take the over.

Randy:

San Francisco vs Pittsburgh- Despite losing all those defensive stars last year, the 49ers were on tilt, making the Vikings confused last night. On offense, I saw a different Colin Kapernick, who looked to pass more on the run. I guess working with Kurt Warner in the offseason helped out. Also, my guy Carlos Hyde probably made the fans say Frank who after his performance (loved that spin move). For the Steelers, they were  exposed on defense by the Pats, especially by Gronk, who they left a linebacker on & Dion Lewis, who had 120 total yards. At least they get Lev’eon Bell back this week to help out, but still won’t have Martavis Bryant until week 5. Home opener for Steelers & I hope no 49ers gets hurt on that field, which I heard is the worst. Jordy Nelson was a casualty in the preseason when he tore his ACL on a non contact play. The Steelers are 5.5 home faves. You already know who I’m going for since my hatred for the Wack & Yellow.

Randy:

St Louis vs Washington- The Rams look legitimate ladies & gents. Nick Foles lived up to his expectations as he therw a td pass & had no interceptions. The defense made life hell for Russell Wilson & Marshawn Lynch. For the Redskins, tough home loss to the Dolphins, Desean pulls a hammy, resulting in missing 4 games & Cousins didn’t do that much to either keep his starting position. I wonder what’s RGIII thinking about his situation in D.C. Remember, the Skins trade up to these same Rams to get him in the draft. Rams are fg road faves. I like the Rams to win & cover.

Randy:

Arizona vs Chicago- I can say the real Cards show up when Carson Palmer’s under center as they looked impressive at home vs the Saints. The defense made it difficult for Brees as well. The Bears didn’t look good vs the Packers. Only bright spot for a lil bit for them was Matt Forte, Could this be a must win for John Fox in his 2nd game as Bears coach? Cards are 2 pt road faves. I like the Cards to win by a td.

Randy:

Atlanta vs N.Y. Giants- The Falcons were the most surprising team to win this weekend. Nobody probably didn’t them a chance to beat Philly. Even though Matt Ryan struggled in the 2nd half, it helped that he had Julio Jones & he went beast mode on their suspect secondary. For the Giants, they had a brain fart in that last 1:30. They weren’t that good to defeat the Cowboys, but they had the lead. Defense caused 2 Romo ints, but the offense was nowhere to be found. i hope Odell Beckham shows up this game. ODB Jr. vs Jones, the receiver’s match-up. Giants are 2 pt home faves. I like the Giants. it’s a must win game for them because they don’t want to be 0-2, especially in that city.

Randy:

New England vs Buffalo- The game of the week! Rex already got his players fired up for this one. They surprised everyone w/ that defensive effort vs Luck & the Colts. Tyrod Taylor got that opportunity to show his talents to the league. For the Patriots, they manhandled the Steelers despite the close score. Brady, Gronk, Edelman & Dion Lewis had stellar performances & they get Legarrett Blount back for this game. This game will separate the men from the boys in the AFC East. It was an even play in the odds. I like the Bills to shock the world again & win by a fg since they are at home.

Noez:

Randy:

Houston vs Carolina- The Panthers sorta struggled in their win last week in Jacksonvile while the Texans looked so bad at home vs the Chiefs that Hoyer lost his starting position & Mallet’s getting the start this game. Only bright spot for the Texans last week was JJ Watt. Advice to Cam Newton: keep your head on a  swivel. The Panthers are 3.5 home faves. I like the Panthers to win & cover.

Randy:

Tennessee vs Cleveland- Mariotta had one of the great debuts in league history w/ his 4 td performance & the team explode for 42 on the Bucs last week. For my Browns, embarrassing loss to the Jets, Josh McCown gets a concussion on the 1st series & had to be replaced by Manziel. It was good ( the td pass to Benjamin), then the roof caved in w/ 4 turnovers. Manziel might get the start this game which means you’ll have a match-up of 2 Heisman trophy winners again. Mariotta already beat Winston for the 2nd time (remember the Rose Bowl), can he beat Johnny? Titans are a pt road fave. I hope my Browns can shake that funk from last week & win this game.

Randy: Tenn

San Diego vs Cincinnati- Both teams are coming off wins The Chargers continued their home dominance over the Lions & Philip Rivers showed out. For the Bengals, they punked the Raiders on the scoreboard & literally on the field. Pacman Jones, you know you’re wrong for what you did to Amari Cooper. It’s the home opener for the Bengals, so the ‘Natti will be rocking. The Bengals are fg home faves. I like the Bengals to win & cover.

Noez:

Randy:

Miami vs Jacksonville- The battle of Florida here. The Jags played the Panthers tough, but didn’t get the win. Advice for Blake Bortles; don’t ever piss off the fan base with the “It’s like a kindergartner saying something to a college kid” commit when you rip the fans about them questioning the play-calling & you had a piss poor game. For the Dolphins, they had to grind out that win in D.C. It’s gonna be another grind fest in Jacksonville. Dolphins are 6 pt road faves. I like the Dolphins to win & take the under.

Noez:

Randy:

Baltimore vs Oakland- Both teams are coming off losses. Not only the Ravens lost  to the Broncos in Denver, they lost T-Sizzle to another season ending injury. That’s why they signed Jason Bsbin. For the Raiders, I know that Jack Del Rio didn’t like that performance from his team. Derek Carr hurts his hand stiff arming Pacman Jones. He was originally not going to play this game, but it sounds like things are going to change. Another pick-em game. I like the Ravens by 10

Randy:

Dallas vs Philadelphia- Rivarly game for the Fox doubleheader. The Cowboys had to snatch victory from the Giants thanks to them having a brain fart during clock management. However, the win didn’t come w/o injuries to Dez Bryant, who’ll be out for 6-8 weeks & Randy Gregory, who has a high ankle sprain & already thin on the defensive line.  They still won’t have Greg Hardy available til week 5. For the Eagles, they started off sluggish in Atlanta, fought back to take the lead & eventually lost the game. Their new acquisitions were more like milk cartons. D’ Angelo Murrary & Ryan Matthews combined for 13 yds & Byron Maxwell was pretty much Julio Jones’ bitch. He better be glad that Dez’s hurt or it would had been ugly for him. Speaking of D’Angelo, his 1st game vs his former team I know he’ll have some extra motivation for this game. The Eagles are fg home faves. The Eagles need this win because they don’t want to be 0-2, in Philly & Chi Kelly will be on the hot seat (sorry Letty & SCDCFC)

Randy:

Seattle vs Green Bay: Rematch of last yr.’s conference title game. The Packers had them defeated at the Link until some miracles had happened. Last week, the Packers did what they had to do to defeat the Bears while the Seahawks had trouble protecting Russell Wilson & opening the holes for Marshawn Lynch. I bet the defense wishes that Kam Chancellor could end his holdout because they exposed by Nick Foles, especially Richard Sherman, who was burned over the top for the big play that resulted in the Rams fg. It’ll be a playoff atmosphere in Lambeau! The Packers are 3.5 home faves. I like the Packers to win & cover.

Monday

N.Y. Jets vs Indianapolis- The Colts get another AFC east opponent again, but this time it’s their home opener.  Last week, Andrew Luck didn’t what was coming his way w/ those blitzes called by Rex Ryan & their new toys (Frank Gore & Andre Johnson) were milk cartons. For the Jets, their defense made life miserable for my Browns & Ryan Fitzpatrick did a good job managing the game. Brandon Marshall showed why he’s gonna be a big time player for them as well. This will be real competition for Fowles this week. The Colts are td home faves. I like the Colts to win & cover.

Last week in the 2015-16 premiere of pick-ems, Randy set the tone w/ a 10-6 showing, yours truly came in 2nd w/an 8-8 record while the returning Noez rounded it out w/ a 6-10. Happy b-day shootouts this week to Mandi Owen, Trish Danielle (one band, one sound), Crystal Santos-Encoy, Amy Panel, Various Vibez, Jackie Papazian-Brown, Shauna Moreno, Nicholas Smith, Jennifer Saldana, Mandie Cervantes, Diego Elizarraraz ak DJ DGAF, Eddie Fontes, Jennifer Beckman, Melissa Moore, Javier Padilla, & Cheryl Zaha. B-day countdown will end next week for me & won the opening game for 2 of my 3 leagues. Wish me luck this week & I’ll catch up w/ ya’ next blog! Peace!!
