the key to Dallas’ surprising 5-1 start: DeMarco Murrary #poundtherock

What a season we have so far this yr. We have a lot of surprising teams making pushes to see themselves in the postseason while some others aren’t looking like a shell of themselves. Last week, we saw JJ Watt score his 3rd td this yr (more than Calvin Johnson & Lesean McCoy combined), Aaron Rodgers w/ a last min td to defeat the Dolphins, my Browns putting a whopping on the hated Steelers, the Bengals & Panthers ending in a tie, Dallas going into Seattle & defeating the Seahawks, thus resulting in Stephen A. Smith (happy b-day by the way) wearing a Tony Romo to pay off a bet to Skip Bayless on First Take this morning, Philly dominating the Giants, San Francisco coming back from a 14-0 defecit to defeat the Rams & more players (Victor Cruz, Alex Mack, Armonety Bryant, Dee Milliner, Steven Ridley, Jerod Mayo, & Knoshown Moreno) suffering season ending injuries. It sucks seeing players drop like flies. I know injuries are part of the game, but you don’t want to wish that on anyone, especially someone who plays for a rival team you don’t like. What do we have for the next 10 weeks? We shall find out. Let’s break down week 7.

Thursday

NY Jets vs New England- AFC East battle. I see Brady & the Pats getting their swagger ever since the media was saying they were done, winning 2 straight in convincing fashion. Last week, they went into Buffalo & dominated them. Brady threw 4 tds & now has a career record of 23-2 vs the Bills. However the victory came at a bad expense w/ Ridley & Mayo suffering season ending injuries. Like the saying goes, next man up. For the Jets, a close loss at home vs the Jets & they lost Milineer again to an injury, this time for the yr. I know it’s panic time for Rex Ryan if they don’t make the playoffs & why isn’t Vick getting opportunities if Geno’s stinking up the joint. Under the lights in Foxborro & for some reason, the Jets seem to play them close there. Pats are 9.5 faves. I like the Pats to win & cover.

Randy:

Sunday

Atlanta vs Baltimore- Matt Ryan vs Joe Flacco. Both players were drafted in the same yr & I always thought Matty Ice would win a Super Bowl before him, but Flacco proved me wrong. Last week, Flacco pretty much raped the Bucs w/ 5 td passes in the 1st qtr as the Ravens punked Tampa Bay in their own house while Matty Ice had a hard time vs the Bears in the Georgia Dome by being sacked 4 times & throwing an int. The Falcons defense is one of the worse defense’s in the league, so expect Torry Smith & Steve Smith Sr. to have a field day on that secondary. Ravens are a td home fave. I like the Ravens to win & cover as well.

Randy:

Tennessee vs Washington- The Titans are coming off a close win vs the winless Jags. BTW, what’s up w/ the Titans fan already starting the “Suck for the Duck” campaign, wanting them to tank so they can get a chance to draft Marcos Mariotta from Oregon in the draft. It’s bad enough that Jake Lockear can’t catch a break w/ his injuries every yr, now the fan base wants to give up on him. The Redskins are like in the same boat. They’re coming off a loss in Arizona & former player now color analyst Brian Mitchell is saying since RG III’s hurt & Cousins’ struggling, maybe they should give Colt McCoy a shot. As a Browns fan who saw Colt play, he’s like RGII, but s better arm. My lasting memory of McCoy is the Pittsburgh game when James Harrison laid him out w/ a shot & the medical staff put him out there not knowing that he was suffering from concussion symptoms. Redskins are 6 pt home faves. I like the Redskins & take the under.

Randy:

Seattle vs St. Louis – NFC West showdown here. Both teams are coming off losss. The Seahawks were pretty much dominated by a balanced Cowboys team & ended up losing at the Link, which is rare nowadays while the Rams were leading the 49ers 14-0 in the 1st qtr & had everything going good til the roof caved in on them. Interesting fact that they don’t have a sack in 5 games after leading the league in that catergory last yr. Robert Quinn was pretty much owned by Joe Staley last night. If they can’t get to Russell Wilson this week, they’re going have a long day. Seahawks are 6.5 road faves. I like the Seahawks & the over.

Randy:

Cleveland vs Jacksonvile- My Browns are on a winning streak. 2 straight, including a dominating ass- whopping on the hated Steelers. They played smash mouth football & Hoyer only competed 8-17 passes for 207, 12 yds a pop. Speaking of Hoyer, it sucks that this story or rumor that he won’t sign a long term deal if Manziel’s still around popped up. He’s 5-2 as a starter, yet we’re talking bout Manziel & Hoyer’s contract. Let it play out til the season ends. This isn’t Derek Anderson all over again & we have a shot for a postseason berth & football in November & December matter. For the Jags, had an opportunity to get their 1st win last week in Tennesse, but the fg was block. Browns are 5.5 road faves. The Browns should win this game by more, but I’m afraid of a slow start like they had vs the Titans. I still got my Browns winning though.

Randy:

Cincinnati vs Indianapolis – The Colts return back home after a tough victory over the Texans on the road last Thursday. Luck did his thang & TY Hilton had his breakout game w/ 9 catches for 223 yds. They have to face a banged up Bengals team who is coming off a tie vs Carolina. The reason they are banged up is becauae AJ Green is stilling dealing w/ his toe injury & Marvin Jones is done for the yr, resulting in them signing ex Browns receiver Greg Little. Memo to Andy Dalton, get use to him dropping passes. Don’t forget bout Carolina bitching bout Vontaze Burfict’s actions intentionally twisting Cam Newton & Olsen’s ankles. Tough game here to choose. The Colts are a fg home fave. I like the Colts to win & cover.

Randy:

Minnesota vs Buffalo- Both teams here are coming off losses. The Vikings & Bridgewater were just manhandled by the Lions at home while the Bills lost at home to the Pats & it was the 1st game of the Pegula ara. They’re still 3-3 & Kyle Orton looked decent last week. It may come down to which qb makes less mistakes. Bills are 5.5 home faves. I like the Bills by a fg. I trust Orton over the rookie.

Randy:

Miami vs Chicago- The Dolphins get to face another NFC North this week. They played a great game last week vs the Packers, but at the end that “Bad Man” Aaron Rodgers did it to them. I was watching it & was impressed w/ Tannerhill. Despite throwing 2 ints in the 1st half, he kept his composure & almost won the game. They also suffered a loss w/ Moreno done for the yr. For the Bears, they regained their offense groove w/ Forte, Marshall, Jeffery & Cutler and the defense showed up. Last week, the Dolphins hosted the Packers, this week they come to Chi-town. Bears are a fg home fave. I like the Bears to win & cover

Randy:

New Orleans vs Detroit- The Saints are coming off their bye week at a surprising 2-3 record, which is shocking to me. I don’t understand their record when they have Drew Brees, Marques Colston, Jimmy Graham, & company. Their problem is when they are away from the Superdome, they are a different team. The Lions are 4-2, coming off a win in Minnesota & Megatron hasn’t been the same since he hurt his foot. He may miss more games, but Golden Tate & the crew are helping out Stafford. Don’t forget bout the defense is doing their job & Suh hasn’t been fined yet for dumb penalties. Lions are 2.5 home favves. I like the Lions by a fg.

Randy:

Carolina vs Green Bay- This could be a co main –event game this week. Packers are coming off that lest second victory over the Dolphins in South Beach. Aaron Rodgers has been on a roll since he told the fans to relax. I wish Eddie Lacy wasn’t like a roller coaster, going up & down. The Panthers are coming off a tie in Cincy, despite Cam Newton putting up numbers & having his 1st 100 yd rushing game this yr. The defense is holding it down even w/o Greg Hardy, who I doubt won’t play again this yr. Another toss- up game to choose here. The Packers are a td home fave. I like the Packers to win by a fg. If the game was in Charlotte, I would had pick Carolina, but the game’s in Lambeau. That’s why I choose the Packers.

Randy:

Kansas City vs San Diego- AFC West showdown. The Chiefs are coming off their bye week, so they had 2 weeks to prepare to face a Chargers team who, in my opinion is the best team so far this yr. Phillip Rivers is playing like a MVP & they are doing it w/o a running game (if only Ryan Matthews could ever stay healthy). Even though they barely beat a winless Raiders team, they still click on all cylinders. Chargers are 4 pt home faves. I like the Chargers by a td.

Randy:

Arizona vs Oakland- The Cards are coming off a home win vs the Redskins w/ the return of Carson Palmer behind center. Even Larry Fitzgerald found the end zone. He gets to return to Oakland to face his former team the Raiders. The Raiders are still winless, but the bright spot for them is David Carr. He has 8 td passes, the most by a rookie in his 1st 5 games, surpassing Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, & Russell Wilson. At least they played the Chargers close. Which Carson Palmer is gonna show up? The Cards are 3.5 road faves. I like the Cards to win & cover.

Randy:

NY Giants vs Dallas- Another NFC showdown here for the G-Men. Last week, not only they were shutout in Philly, but they lost Victor Cruz for the yr when he tore his patella. I guess those LSU boyz (Randle & Beckham) will have to be Eli’s best friend for the offense. I wonder will they have Rashad Jennings as well for the game. The Cowboys are riding high after their win in Seattle & Murrary is playing a major part. Other than 1st qtr fumbles, he’s had over 100 yds rushing their 1st 6 games. He may get to a 1,000 before week 9. Romo is still Romo, but the offense is balanced. This is a heartbreaking choice for me here. Cowboys are 6.5 home faves. I like the Cowboys by a td (I know a certain person who would love this pick). It hurts me to choose the Cowboys this game because N.Y is my 3rd home & Cruz being hurt kills it for me.

Randy:

San Francisco vs Denver- Don’t look now, but the 49ers are on a 3 game winning streak. They won their 46th Monday Night game last week in St. Louis, the most in that program’s history. Kaep exploded for 313 yds passing & 3 tds. Only downfall for that game was Patrick Willis’ toe injury & his availability for this game is unsure. For the Broncos, another victory for them, this time over the Jets & Peyton’s only 3 td passes from overtaking Favre for most tds. This could had been last yr’s Super Bowl match-up had the Niners defeated Seattle in the NFC title game. The main event for Sunday. Broncos are 6.5 home faves. For some reason, I like the Niners by a fg on the road.

Randy:

Monday

Houston vs Pittsburgh- Both teams are coming off losses to divisional rivals.. The Texans had a tough home loss to the Colts. Crucial turnovers hurt them, bright spot for them was JJ Watt scoring his 3rd td of the season. He even did the Nae Nae after he scored. For the Steelers, they were manhandled by the Browns. Ben Roethesberger, who had a 18-1 record vs the Browns coming into that game, couldn’t get anything. They looked like how the Browns look when they played the Steelers. As a Browns fan, it felt to hear ex Steelers like Bill Cowher & Hines Ward call them out after their performance & funny to go on the Steelers Facebook page & see their fans calling for them to fire Todd Haley or Mike Tomlin. Haley could be a possibility, but they’ll never fire Tomlin. I’m 38 yrs old & the only coaches I know from their history are Chuck Noll (R.I.P), Cowher, & Tomlin. Noll & Cowher quit, they were never fired. MNF affair, so the lights are on for both teams. Steelers are 3.5 home faves. I like the Texans by a fg. I would to see Watt terrorize Big Ben & maybe get another td.

Randy:

Last week, yours truly took the top spot from Randy w/ a 12-2-1 showing while Randy finsished w/ a 11-3-1 showing. My fantasy squad almost pulled off a great comeback, but ended up losing by 4, thus snapping my 3 game winning streak & evening my record at 3-3, still in the hunt for the playoffs. Happy b-day shoutouts to Erin Cardenas, Hector Guerrero, Wendy Villa, Vivivan Herrea, Erik Rojas aka DJ Stunna (Bollas), Melissa Gene, my step-sister Ramona Grayson & my buddy Tracey Poole reppin that Pink Lady ent. Special shoutout to the only female who reads my blog Leticia Robinson, congrats on the engagement. Make sure to follow the homie Screws & check out his blog “Screws U” on Soundclod. I’ll check everyone else next week on the next blog. Peace!!
