the week of the Young Guns (Bortles & Bridgewater)

the week of the Young Guns (Bortles & Bridgewater)

How’s my NFL fans doing out there!! I know I’m the only one who’s happy that some of these off the field issues have died down, but some of them (Greg Hardy, Jonathan Dwyer, & Ray McDonald) haven’t been solved yet. Last week, we saw my Browns lose a nail biter to Baltimore, the Eagles/Redskins game had me thinking of Ali/Frazier, Blake Bortles & Teddy Bridgewater making their rookie debuts, Steven Tulloch tearing his ACL celebrating a sack, another 2nd half letdown by the 49ers, the Super Bowl rematch going into OT, & the Cards, Eagles & Bengals remain the only undefeated teams left. I wonder what we expect from this week. We know that the bye weeks start this week, so the Browns, Cards, Bengals, Broncos, Seahawks, & Rams have the week off. Let’s break down week 4 shall we!!

Thursday

NY Giants vs Washington- NFC East battle here. The Giants finally got their win over the Texans & the offense finally got going. Rashad Jennings had a big game & it helped that the Texans were w/o the services of Arian Foster. The Redskins were in a shootout, scrap fest vs the Eagles, which resulted in a loss, however Kirk Cousins looked good & will have fantasy owners trying to scoop & pick him up. Under the lights in DC, so who’s going have more pressure on themselves & both teams are 1-2. So someone has to win. The Skins are 3.5 home faves. I like the G-Man to steal this one on the road. It depends on which Eli shows up.

Sunday

Miami vs Oakland- Both teams play the 1st of the 2 games the league has set up for the London crowd. Both teams are coming off losses, the Raiders having a nail biter in New England while the Dolphins were popped in the mouth at home vs the Chiefs. That loss was so bad that they were talking bout benching Tannerhill. It may come down to which qb can make less mistakes & which team won’t be affected by the time change in my opinion. The Dolphins are 4 pt faves. I like the Dolphins in a close game.

Randy:

Tampa Bay vs Pittsburgh- The Steelers looked like world beaters how they dominated the Panthers in Carolina. That reminded me of those Super Bowl winning teams w/ Ben not throwing that much & both Bell & Blount rushing over 100 yds. Now, they are turning back the clock w/ the resigning of James Harrison. For the Bucs, they didn’t look vs the Falcons on Thursday & Doug Martin has hit the sophomore slump already & this is week 4. I still think Lovie Smith is going to be the 1st coach canned this yr. The Steelers are a td home faves. I like the Steelers to win big, so take the over.

Randy:

Detroit vs NY Jets- The Lions are finding ways to win games. Last week, the defense dominated & other than Tulloch tearing his ACL, they made things uncomfortable for Aaron Rodgers. Hell, even Calvin Johnson didn’t score a td & Stafford had a bad game, yet still won. The Jets have issues. They are $22 mil under the cap & the secondary’s mediocre, Eric Decker can’t stay healthy & even though Geno had a subpar game, his turnovers killed them. It also helps that they were 1 for 7 in the RED ZONE. Is their a change in qb needed? I don’t think so. It might be an ugly defensive battle or a blowout here. The Lions are 1.5 road faves. I like the Lions to win here.

Randy:

Tennessee vs Indianapolis- The Colts had to say thanks for the schedule for the Jags. Andrew Luck picked a right time to have a breakout game after getting ridiculed for his late game situations last Monday. He had over 340 yds, 4 tds, & no ints. It might have to be running back by committee w/ Bradshaw & Richardson for the running game to get going. For the Titans, they just had a tough time in Cincy. No explanations needed. AFC South battle here. Indy’s a 9 pt home fave. I like the Colts here.

Randy:

Buffalo vs Houston- The Bills want to shake the home loss to the Chargers off their head. The Texans were just shook by the fact that Foster didn’t play & the offense showed in the loss. However, both teams are 2-1, so they are straight. The Texans at 2-1 w/ Ryan Fitzpatrick as their starting qb is surprising to me. It’s going be a defensive battle here. The Texans are 3 pt home faves. This game was a toss-up for me, but I like the Texans to protect their house & get the win..

Randy:

Green Bay vs Chicago- One of the longest rivalries in professional sports gets off the ground this week in Chi-Town. The Bears had to hold off a late Jets rally to protect their win. They may be 2-1, but what the hell is happening to Matt Forte. He can’t get going in the running game. Bright spot for the Bears so far is the corners, especially Kyle Fuller. They have picked up the slack ever since Charles Tillman got hurt. For the Packers, Rodgers struggled vs the Lions & it showed in their loss. If anyone thought they would be 1-2 after 3 weeks, they must be crazy. Rivalry game, so anything may go. The Packers are 1.5 road faves. I like the Bears to win a close game.

Randy:

Carolina vs Baltimore- The Ravens survived a nailbiter in Cleveland, but still had to answer questions bout Ray Rice the next day. He’s suing them for unlawful termination, but the front office is throwing his ass under the bus bout how they handled his situation. It’s like an episode of Law & Order. I know Biscotti, Ozzie, & Harbaugh rather talk bout on field issues & games than off field distractions. For the Panthers, they were just popped in the mouth at home by the Steelers & will they have both Jonathan Stewart & DeAngelo Williams in the backfield is the question. Kelvin Benjamin is the bright spot. Interesting storyline is that Steve Smith gets to face his former team, He still has it. He wants to prove something. The Ravens are a fg home fave. I like the Panthers to spoil Smith’s game & get the win.

Randy:

Jacksonville vs San Diego- What a way for Blake Bortles to get his 1st career start. He had to come in last week when they were down like 30 to the Colts. He had his moments like 2 ints, but still threw 2 td passes & his future will be bright when he has the right weapons around him (if only Justin Blackmon could only focus on his game & quit being an alcoholic). The Chargers are coming off a road win in Buffalo. They are 2-1, same as the Broncos, so they have motivation for this yr. The Chargers are 13.5 home faves. I like the Chargers to win & take the over.

Randy:

Philadelphia vs San Francisco- The Eagles are undefeated & they had another slow start, but came out victorious at the end. They had everything going at them, especially w/ a fiery Desean Jackson returning & all gloves came off when Foles got knocked on his ass. Plus, you got Cory Williams saying that Chip burns them out in practice, which he later apologize for. The 49ers are having problems. Another 2nd half collapse & the last 2 games they have been outscored 52-3. In the game last week, they had dumb penalties that will kill teams in games. Questions for this game: Can the 49ers avoid another 2nd half collapse & will the Eagles continue their trends for starting off slow. The 49ers are 5.5 home faves. I think this is the week the Eagles fall. I like the Niners to win a close one.

Randy:

Atlanta vs Minnesota – Teddy Bridgewater gets his 1st career start this week. He gets to face a Falcons squad who got lucky that the Bucs offense was garbage last week. Bridgewater played well in a close loss to the Saitns. For the Falcons, it was a party vs the Bucs last week. Matty Ice dominated, Julio Jones went beast mode since Roddy White & Devin Hester broke Deion Sanders’ record for most return tds. It sucked that the refs flagged him for high stepping. He was paying homage to Prime Time. How will Teddy do? We have to see. The Falcons are 2.5 road faves. I like the Falcons to win & take the over.

Randy:

New Orleans vs Dallas- The NBC game of the week. Both teams are coming off wins. The Cowboys had to come back from a 21 pt defecit vs a Rams team that had Austin Davis as their starting quarterback to defeat them. I’ve been saying this the last 3 yrs & I hope they will keep listening to me: keep pounding the rock to Demarco Murrary. I know you still have Dez Bryant & he’s a beast along w/ Tony Romo & his passing yds, but pound the ball more to Murrary. For the Saints, close win vs the Vikings at home. Shocking to me that they are 1-2 & a game back of Carolina & Atlanta in the NFC South. Under the lights at Jerry’s house. The Saints are fg road faves. I like the Saints to win & cover (can’t wait for your response to this Letty).

Monday

New England vs Kansas City- The Pats get the Monday night treatment this week. They had to battle the Raiders til the end to survive the win. Question for me & other fantasy owners: Should we give up on Tom Brady? He’s not putting up the numbers & I know that Gronk’s returning from an injury, but c’mon man. You’re a hall of famer, but you’re playing like a has-been. For the Chiefs, never expected them to score 34 pts on a Dolphins team & you have no Jamal Charles. It’s in Arrowhead, so expect a lot of Red in the crowd. Will we see a lot of Nile Davis? The Pats are 4 pt faves. I like the Pats to win & cover.
