Wild Card Weekend

Road to Super Bowl XLVIII starts this weekend

It’s here people!! The real season begins! The Playoffs starts this weekend & this is where we separate the real from the fake. We have 12 teams (6 from the AFC & NFC respectively) competing in a single game elimination tournament to call themselves “champion” at the end of the day. Last week’s regular season finale saw the Steelers almost getting the breaks needed to clinch a playoff spot, all of the NFC division title clinched on the final day w/ Green Bay & Philly needing nail biters, & 6 coaches getting pink slips the day after. The one I’m pissed bout is my Browns firing Chudinski! After 1 yr? I don’t get it. We have all off-seasom to answer these questions. Before I start the picks, it’s a damn shame that all 4 home teams need a ticket extension to lift their blackout rule. One of those teams is Green Bay & that shocks me. I thought that was “Title Town”. Let’s talk wild card games.

Kansas City vs Indianapolis- We saw this match-up in the regular season couple weeks ago & the Colts dominated them in Arrowhead. It’s the rematch, so the Chiefs probably looking for revenge. The Colts are coming off a dominating performance vs Jacksonville & Trent Richardson scored his 2nd td as a Colt that game. This will be his playoff debut, so the lights will be on him. For the Chiefs, the 2nd stringers gave the Chargers a run for their money before losing in overtime. Andy will have his starters ready for this game & the only players on the Chiefs who have play-off experience is Alex Smith. However, their coach has been here before, so he will be motivated. The Colts are 1.5 home fave. I like the Colts by a fg.

New Orleans vs Philadelphia- The Eagles clinched the NFC East last week, but the Cowboys did give them a run w/out Tony Romo. It took a Kyle Orton int to seal the deal. For the Saints, they are entering the playoffs after defeating the Bucs, but losing 2 out of 3 games cost them the division & no. 2 seed. Everybody knows how the Saints do when they aren’t in the Superdome, so they are backed in a corner here. The Eagles are 2.5 home faves. I like the Eagles at home by a fg. If the weather’s cold, expect a struggle from Drew Brees.

San Diego vs Cincinnati- The Chargers are coming in the postseason on a roll winning 4 straight games & w/ the offense led by Phillip Rivers, Ryan Matthews, & Antonio Gates, this is probably a team that nobody in the AFC wants to see in the postseason. The Bengals are coming off a dominating home win over Baltimore despite Andy Dalton throwing 3 ints in the game. I know the Bengals wished they had a bye week, but they had to play what the cards dealt them. It may come down to which qb makes less mistakes. The Bengals are a td home fave. The Bengals hadn’t lost at home this yr & it will continue the trend. I like the Bengals to win & cover.

San Francisco vs Green Bay- Round 3 of this battle! The 49ers won the last 2 battles including the divisional round last yr & the season opener this yr. The 49ers are starting to get healthy & winning when the time’s right. The Packers got lucky to win their division when the Lions & Bears couldn’t seal the deal & the Packers were left for dead w/out Aaron Rodgers til he returned last week & lead them to a thrilling win over the Bears w/ a late minute td to a returning Randall Cobb. This is gonna be the game of the week in my opinion. While the 49ers come in healthy, the Packers are banged up & won’t have Clay Matthews for this game. It’s in Lambeau Field, but I doubt the Niners will be scared of this. If you need a team to win 3 straight road games to go to the Super Bowl, I can see the Niners doing that. The 49ers are 2.5 road faves. I like the Niners to be the only road team to win this weekend.

Last week, Randy capped off his thrilling dominating season of picks w/ an amazing 15-1 week to end his overall record of 166-89. Yours truly was in 2nd this week w/ a 12-4 record to end my overall record of 155-99 while Noez rounded it out w/ a dismal week of 3-12 to end his overall standings with 132-115. Congrats to Randy once again, but we’ll be on your ass next yr. I hope everyone had a safe New Year’s eve. Happy b-day shoutouts to my cousin Thomas Clarkson V, Alfred Macias, Jimmie Cummings, Fernando Alvarez, the homie DJ C-Walk, & Natalie Guzman. I wanna wish good luck to my Ohio State Buckeyes in the Orange Bowl tomorrow. I’ll catch up w/ y’all next week w/ a new blog for the divisional round. Peace!!
