Week 2 preview

What an amazing 1st week of the NFL season we had. We saw Peyton Manning carved the Ravens for 7 td passes, Ndamukong Suh back to his dirty tricks & Goodell hitting him where it hurts, Geno Smith making Jets fans forget bout Mark Sanchez, 49ers/Packers living up to the hype & Colin Kaepernick to Anquan Boldin sounding lovely, the Giants committing 6 turnovers in a loss to the Cowboys, the Chip Kelly system tiring out the Redskins, Phillip Rivers finding another way to choke a Chargers win & a record 63 td passes thrown. I wonder what we have in store for week 2. I hope it gets better. Let’s break down the games.

Thursday

N.Y. Jets vs New England- NFL Network kicks off their schedule with this AFC east contest. The Jets may have found their guy in Geno Smith as he lead the Jets on a last minute drive, thanks to a late hit by Bucs Lavonte David on Smith to pull out the win. He found a safety blanket in Kellen Winslow & the defense was making the Bucs work for everything. For the Patriots, the Bills gave them everything they got & they still got the win, but at what cost. They lost Shane Verren for 11 weeks after he dislocated a bone in his left wrist, requiring surgery & Danny Amendola practically ruled out after his groin. They still don’t know if Gronk will be available for this game. With these two teams, it may go either way. It could be close or blowout. I think it’s going be close. The Pats are 2 touchdown faves  I like the Pats, but take the under.

Sunday

St. Louis vs Atlanta- The Falcons return home after a tough road loss in New Orleans. Matty Ice put up his numbers & Steven Jackson proved that he still has something left in the tank. For the Rams, great home win vs the Cardinals as Sam Bradford wants to be in the next level category. By the way, Jared Cook & Tavoris Austin are nice toys for him I know Jackson’s gonna have motivation going into this game. He’s gonna have that attitude of “nothing personal, strictly business”. Expect a good game. The Falcons are 7.5 home faves. I like the Falcons to win & cover.

Cleveland vs Baltimore- AFC north battle. Both teams are coming off losses. Matter of fact, the AFC north was the only division that no team got a win. For my Browns, too many penalties, Brandon Weeden getting knocked arounf like a piñata, & Norv Turner giving up on the run too early. For the Ravens, that secondary had Peyton Manning problems & losing all those starters from last yr played a major part. It’s their home opener, thanks to the stubbornness of the Baltimore Orioles’ organization to not changing the time of their game last week because of the parking lot. The Ravens are 6.5 home faves. I like my Brownies to somehow steal this game in B-More & take the cover.  Weeden & the guys gotta bounce back.

Carolina vs Buffalo- I can see another exciting contest here. Both teams are coming off gut wrenching losses. For the Bills, they gave the Pats everything they can handle & I love their upside. E.J. Manuel proved he’s the real deal & the offensive young weapons (Spiller, Fred Jackson, Stevie Johnson, & watch out for Robert Woods) reminds me of the K-Gun offense that Marv Levy coached in the 90’s. For the Panthers, the defense is hard hitting, but is Cam Newton a real leader for that team. He couldn’t deliver when they needed him last week. It’s going be a defensive battle here. The  Panthers are a fg road fave. I like the Bills to win & cover.

Minnesota vs Chicago- NFC north rivalry here. The Bears started the Marc Trestman era in the right way w/ a win. The fans were loving the new offense as Cutler was finding Marshall & they still remember that they had Forte in the backfield. The Vikings were lead by AP as usual w/ 3 tds, but Ponder still has his doubters bout his passing game & Reggie Bush pretty much hurt them last week. All I know is this, whenever Minnesota plays at Stoldier Field, those fans will have their popcorn ready because Peterson always put on a show. The Bears are 6.5 home faves. I like the Bears to win & cover.

Washington vs Green Bay: The two halves of the Skins. 1st half, they couldn’t stop the Eagles high potent offense & RG III & Alfred Morris struggled as 3 turnovers in 10 plays showed. 2nd half, he found his rhythm, thanks to the league telling him to cover up the brace & almost led them to a comeback win. Now they have to go to Lambeau Field & face a Packers team who had to deal w/ another mobile qb  last week in Kaepernick & he beats them w/ his arm. By the way, Clay Matthews should be happy that Goodell didn’t punish him w/ a fine or suspension after his late hit of Kaepernick. Home opener for the Pack, so expect a loud crowd. The Packers are 7.5 home faves. I like the Packers to win & cover.

Tennessee vs Houston- AFC South battle. Both teams are coming off wins. Nobody, including me expected the Titans to go into Pittsburgh & beat the Steelers. It didn’t look good how they started w/ that wacky safety on the opening kickoff. Jake Locklear has to play gamemanger. For the Texans, they had to scored 24 unanswered points after being down 28-7 to beat the Chargers last night. J.J. Watt & the defense took over that game in the 2nd half. The Texans proved they can come back from a slow start to win & it sucks the Chargers found a way to choke that game away. The Texans are 9.5 home faves. I like the Texans & take the under.

Miami vs Indianapolis- Both teams are coming off wins. The Dolphins used the arm of Tannerhill, the hands of Brian Hartline, & the defense to defeat my Brownies. Only lowlight for them was Mike Wallace only getting 1 catch in his Dolphins’ debut. For the Colts, Andrew Luck proved there’s no sophomore slump around here as the Colts beat the Raiders, but it was a close game. I can see another close game here in Indy. The Colts are a fg home fave. I like the Colts to win & cover the spread

Detroit vs Arizona- The Lions are coming off a 10 pt win over the Vikings, but Ndamukong Suh  just had to overshadowed their win w/ his latest actions by getting fined 100k for his hit on Vikings center John Sullivan. That makes like $300k in fines he had in his 3 yr  career.  I don’t know what will be his reason for a short career, Goodell hitting him in his pockets or some offensive lineman gives him a piece of his own medicine. For the Cardinals, tough loss in St. Louis, but Larry Fitzgerald’s back to his old self thanks to Carson Palmer.  I’m hoping Megatron can have a breakout game on Patrick Peterson because he was a no show last week & had a td taken away from him because of a review. I have him on my fantasy team & even though I won, I should had more points from him. Expect a defensive battle. The Lions are a pt road fave. I like the Lions to win by a fg.

Dallas vs Kansas City- The Cowboys are looking for momentum after a great win over the Giants. The defense committed 6 turnovers & Romo & the offense was moving on no huddle so much that the Giants were having their defensive line getting hurt & the Cowboy players were claiming they were faking injuries. For the Cheifs, they started off the Andy Reid era in convincing fashion w/ a win. They only gave up 2 pts to a Jaguars squad & held them to 189 yds in total offense. Home opener for the Chiefs, so that crowd is going to be loud. The Chiefs are 2.5 home fave. I’m taking the Chiefs to win & cover  (sorry Letty baby)

San Diego vs Philadelphia- Both teams played on Monday night. One won w/ their new “fast Nascar” offense while the other team blew a 28-7 lead & ended up losing the game. The Eagles were the talk after the game & the media are wondering if this can keep up or was this a fad. Funny part about this game is that they ran the ball more than they passed. I wonder how come they never ran like that when Andy Reid was coaching them.McCoy almost had 200 yds rushing & it was crazy having 58 plays ran in the 1st half. For the Chargers, why does Phillip Rivers always find a way to lose a game. He was hot in the 1st half, but in the 2nd half, especially in the 4th qtr, he disappeared. Just call him “Milk Carton”. I wonder if the Chargers defense will have their track shoes after the Eagles fast break offense tires them out. The Eagles are 7.5 home faves. It’s the home opener for them & they definitely don’t want to let that home crowd down. I like the Eagles to win & cover.

New Orleans vs Tampa Bay- The Saints won this one for Sean Payton in his return on the sideline. It came down to a defensive stance & Rob Ryan knew what kind of defense to call. Their defense were their problems last yr & they were getting to Matty Ice. Brees & Sproles were key on offense. The Bucs made a cosly mistake in their loss to the Jets. Matter of fact, 13 penalties on them. I know Coach Schaino is looking to change the culture there, but composure man. It ruined Revis Island’s return to New York. Home opener in tampa & it’s a divisional battle. The Saints are a field goal road fave. I like the Saints to spoil the home opener, win, & cover the spread.

Denver vs N.Y. Giants- Manning Bowl pt.3. Last week, these brothers combined for 11 ts & 3 ints. The Broncos exploded for 49 pts last week on the champs & they still don’t have a running game. Even w/ the 6 turnovers, the Giants still could had won the game. 2 fumbles by David Wilson & it was so bad that they brought back Brandon Jacobs aka Twinkle Toes to solve that problem. My opinion, they should have gotten Willis McGahee. Expect a lot of passing yds & tds in that game. It’s the G-Men home opener. The Broncos are 4.5 road faves. I want to say the Giants to win, but I don’t trust their secondary. I like the Broncos to win & go over the spread.

Jacksonville vs Oakland- Both teams lost week, but the Raiders looked more impressive in Indy. Terelle Pryor proved doubters, including myself wrong w/ his play. For the Jags, they only scored 2 pts & to make things worse, Blaine Gabbert won’t be available for this game, meaning Matt Moore gets to shine. The Raiders are 5.5 home faves. It’s their home opener & I like the Raiders to win & go over the spread.

San Francisco vs Seatle- The two favorites to represent the NFC in this yr’ Super Bowl meet up in round 1 of this head to head match-up in the primetime affair in Seattle. Both teams are coming off wins w/ their qbs in Kaerpernick & Wilson going over 300 yds passing  (Kaep w/ a career high 412) & Boldin having a break-out game w/ 200 yds receiving in their victory over the Packers. For the Seahawks, they had to claw it out w/ the Panthers. Last time these two met, The Seahawks blew them out in front of a raucious Seattle crowd & the Seahawks treated it like they won the Super Bowl. This game got a lil humor w/ the bet the qbs made. Whoever loses the game must shave one of their eyebrows. The Seahawks are 2.5 home faves. They went undefeated last yr at home & it’s the home opener. However, I think the Niners can silent that crowd & Boldin is the reason I still like the 49ers over Seattle. 49ers by a fg.

Monday

Pittsburgh vs Cincinatti- Another AFC North battle & like both the Ravens & Browns, are coming off a loss. For the Steelers, tough loss to the Titans & they lose Maurice Pouncey for the season & Larry Foote’s on ir w/ a biceps injury. The running game’s so suspect that they brought back Jonathan Dwyer after cutting him couple weeks ago. For the Bengals,  A.J. Green did his part to help them win the game, but Dalton threw 2 ints. & the Bears are know to cause turnovers. It’s gonna be a defensive battle & don’t forget it’s the 1st time James Harrison gets to face his former teammates. Home opener in the Natti. The Bengals are 6.5 home faves. I like the Bengals to win, but take the under.

In the 1st week of NW radio picks, Randy was the top dawg w/ a 11-5 record, yours truly was 2nd w/ an 8-8 record while Noez rounded it out w/ a 7-9 record. It’s a long season & us 3 have an lil incentive in this picks for best overall record thanks to Mega 7981. May the best man win. Before I bounce, happy b-day shoutouts to Raul ‘Boogie” Caracoza, Andy Clark, Janis Ortega, Marcus Gil, Lea Reck, Wardell Jasper, Eugene Hidalgo, Alex Jaime, Anna Chagolla, & Mandi Owen. To my female fan Letica Robinson, prayers for your loss. Since this is fight week, I got Mayweather by decision. I hope De La Hoya does well in rehab. I’ll see everyone next week on the next blog. Peace
