a pic that haunts Broncos fan everywhere

I’m baacccck!! I know everyone missed me & those blogs. I hope everyone enjoyed their Labor day weekend. I did the family & happy 50th wedding anniversary to my aunt & uncle Lee & Jeneral Davis. Now we got that out of the way, it’s that time again people. Only 3 more days til the 2013 NFL season starts. 31 teams competing for that goal to call themselves champion. Who has what it takes? A lot of teams made moves to improve their chances while some teams stood pat & didn’t do jack. Let’s break down week 1 shall!!

Thursday

Baltimore vs Denver- Once again, the defending champs get to open on Thursday, but in a rare moment on the road. Thanks to the Baltimore Orioles’  relunctcy to share the parking lot or move their game to an early time, the champs will have to open up in Denver in a rematch of last yr’s divisional round playoff.  A lot of Bronco fans can still see that Flacco to Jacoby Jones bomb over Rahiem Moore to tie the score & we all know what happened next. It was a waste of  a yr in the eyes of the Broncos. They had homefield throughout & Peyton Manning was  having a MVP year.  The Broncos made moves this offseason by picking up Wes Welker, but lost Elvis Dumervill via free agency to the champs. I wonder what kind of reception he’s gonna get. As for the champs, they changed all around w/ losing 9 starters w/ Ray Lewis retiring & Ed Reed leaving for Houston, but gave Flacco a big contract extension. Basically, Ozzie Newsome & the front office put all their cards on him. It’s gonna be a playoff atmosphere on Thursday night. The  Broncos are 9.5 home faves. I like the Broncos to win, but take the under because no Von Miller for the Broncos.

Sunday

New England vs Buffalo- Two AFC East rivals start off the season w/ interesting storylines. For the Pats, we all know that Brady is missing his offensive weapons from last yr (Welker & Lloyd gone while Gronk’s hurt & Aaron Hernandez basically throwing his life away), but he’ll make no names into stars. Their defense will hold it down. For the Bills, since Kevin Kolb & their 3rd round pick E.J. Manuel are injured, they have to rely on Jeff Tuel, an unknown rookie to start. I love the running game w/ Spiller & Fred Jackson when healthy & Stevie Johnson already poppin off w/ him saying no one on the Pats can stop me. Love the swagger, but don’t like your chances to win this game. Pats are 10.5 road fave. I like the Pats & the slight under.

Seattle vs Carolina- From a fan’s perspective, it’s a nice qb match-up between Cam Newton & Russell Wilson.. Both of them are mobile, but Wilson has a better touch than Newton. The Seahwaks have something to prove after losing to the Falcons in the 2nd round. Pete Carroll has turned things around, but they won’t have no Percy Harvin early during the season since he’s recovering from hip surgery. For the Panthers, a new offensive coordinator for Cam, but no Jonathan Stewart for week 1 to back up DeAngelo Williams. The Seahawks are 3 point road faves. I like the Seahawks & slight over.

Cincinnati vs Chicago- Marc Trestman starts his regular season debut in a major way. They get to play the Bengals & lot of questions will have to be answered. No Brian Urlacher to anchor the defense & not seeing Lovie Smith will be crazy. For the Bengals, still making baby steps w/ Dalton & Green. They still have to win a playoff game to get the league’s attention. Props to Geno Atkins to getting an extension though. The Bears are a fg home fave. Sorry to my cuzzos Julius & Jerome, but I got the Bengals winning that one & covering the spread.

Miami vs Cleveland- Believe it or not, I’m excited for this season as a Browns’ fan. I like our moves we made,, especially in the draft. Hiring Norv Turner as the offensive coordinator will be the best thing to happen to Brandon Weeden & it showed in the preseason. Sorta pissed that Josh Gordon’s gonna missed the 1st 2 games due to suspension. For the Dolphins, yr 2 of the Ryan Tannerhill era. They picked up Mike Wallace via free agency, but will have running back by committee w/ Lamar Miller & Daniel Thomas. Both teams got defense, but it’ll come down to which qb makes the fewest mistakes & manages the game. The Browns are a slight point home fave. I like my Browns to win & go over the spread.

Minnesota vs Detroit- NFC north rivals start off this week. Everyone’s anxious to see what both Adrian Peterson & Calvin Johson aka Megatron are capable of after their amazing seasons. Megatron broke Jerry Rice’s single season yardage record while Peterson was only 9 yds away from surpassing Eric Dickerson’s record & Dickerson was the only one happy bout that. The Vikings added Greg Jennings in the offseason to give Christian Ponder a wide receiver to throw to since Percy Harvin was hurt last yr & eventually went to Seattle. For the Lions, they added Reggie Bush to go along w/ Megatron & gave Strafford another toy along w/ his extension. This may be a great game on paper. The Lions are 4.5 home faves. I take the Lions & the over because I trust Stafford before I trust Ponder.

Oakland vs Indianaplis- I wonder how Al Davis (RIP) would react to Terrelle Pryor winning the starting job over Matt Flynn. Raiders franchise haven’t a great qb since Rich Gannon. Carson Palmer had an ok yr, but that was it. Only thing they got is Darren McFadden. For the Colts, they were “America’s team” last yr because of Chuck Pagano’s battle w/ cancer & Bruce Arians did a hell of a job filling in for him. His reward was the coaching job of the Arizona Cardinals & he deserved it. Andrew Luck would had been the offensive rookie of the year if RGIII didn’t blow up.. Only meesed up for the Colts is that Dwight Freeney’s not there anymore since he’s in the 619. The Colts are 10 pt home faves. I like the Colts & the over.

Kansas City vs Jacksonville- The Andy Reid era in Kansas City gets to jump off in Jackonsville this week. A lot of experts have them as a wild card team this yr & I’m anxious to see them this yr. Alex Smith will have new life & Jamal Charles was the forgetten running back from last yr. He tore his acl the yr before & had a great comeback, but was overshawdowed by Adrian Peterson. For the Jags, nothing to talk about. I pretty much feel sorry for Maurice Jones Drew. Other than him, Blaine Gabbert, & Justin Blackmon, there’s nobody on this team I would want to se. It’s already bad enough that there own fans won’t come to their games. The Chiefs are 3.5 road faves. I like the Cheifs & the over (what up Steven Rojo). Gotta show love to Dwayne Bowe aka Optimus Prime

Atlanta vs New Orleans- To me, this has been the best rivalry in the NFC South division. The Falcons made it to the conference title game last yr where they eventually lost to the 49ers. The offense remained the same, except now they have Steven Jackson in the backfield instead of Micahel Turner & Tony Gonzalez decided to put those retirement plans on hold for another crack at the ring. They also went defense on the draft by drafting players to  address the secondary. For the Saints, despite all problems because of Bounty gate, they finished w/ an 8-8 record.  The best thing happened to them after the season ended: Sean Payton returning as their coach after sitting out the whole yr.  Expect a Madden type shootout score for this game. The Saints are a fg home faves. I like the Falcons to win & go over slightly in the spread.

Tampa Bay vs N.Y. Jets- A lot of storylines heading to this game, but the main one is the return of Revis Island in MET Life Stadium. Darelle Revis, who started his Pro Bowl career w/ the Jets, will be returning this time as a villain. I wonder what kind of reception he’ll get. He’ll probably get boo’ed knowing the NY Crowd  can eat up an individual. For the Jets, the Geno Smith era starts. Despite his stubbornness & favoritism for Mark Sanchez, Rex Ryan has no choice to start him since Sanchez got hurt in the 4th qtr of the 3rd preseason game & they don’t think either Greg McElroy or Matt Simms is the guy. BTW, why the hell they signed Brady Quinn? Either way, the receiving corps going struggle because they don’t know when Santino Holmes is gonna return & Stephen Hill is gonna have to redeem himself from that dismal rookie yr. It’s gonna be an ugly game. The Bucs are a fg road fave. I love my Havana gf & happy b-day once again, but I couldn’t even seeing the Jets winning this game even w/ Sanchez starting. I like the Bucs & the cover

Tennessee vs Pittsburgh- This might be a make or break yr for Mike Tomlin. The Steeler missed the playoffs the last 2 yrs & he’s gonna be on the hot seat if they don’t make it this yr. You still have Roethesberger, but took a hit when Levoll Bell got injured & they’re lucky it wasn’t a season ending one. Plus, they fact they let Mike Wallace go to Miami may have weakened the receiving corps. For the Titans,  you still Chris Johnson & he still wants to get a 2000 yd season. I wonder how Jake Locklear will do in yr 3. The Wack & Yellow are 7.5 home faves. I’ll take the Steelers to win & cover .

Green Bay vs San Francisco- The game of the day in my opinon. For Jim Harbaugh, will the 3rd time be the charm? His 1st yr, he made it to the conference title game, last yr, he made it to the Super Bowl, but ended up losing to his brother’s team the Ravens. It’s gotta be championship or bust this yr for him. A full season of Colin Kaepernick as starter, but it’s gonna be rough w/ no Michael Crabtree til mid November. But, they made a great move by picking up Anquin Boldin via free agency & getting a steal in Eric Reid in the draft.. For the Packers, they lost to this same 49ers team in the divisional round last yr, but remained the same. They answered their running back needs in the draft by selecting Eddie Lacy from Alabama in the 3rd round & Jonathan Franklin from UCLA in the 6th round. Aaron Rodgers in the words of Stephen A Smth, is a “bad man”, but he lost Donald Driver to retirement & Greg Jennings to Minnesota. He still has Jordy Nelson & J’Micheal Finley to help hm out. The defense was their Achilles last yr & they let Charles Woodson go back to the Raiders.  Expect an offensive shootout in the game. The Niners are 4.5 home faves. I like the 49ers to win & go slightly over the spread.

 Randy::

Arizona vs St. Louis- Expect a defensive battle in this contest. The Cardinals are another team experts are surprised on this yr. They answered their quarterback problems by acquiring Carson Palmer, which means Larry Fitzgerald’s gonna go HAM  this yr. they made a decent, but ok upgrade in running back by signing Rashard Mendehall from the Steelers. In the draft, they got the steal by selecting Tyronn Matthieu aka the Honey Badger, even though he sat out the whole yr. Let’s hope he stays away from the weed like Stephen A Smith said on 1st Take. Their secondary is gonna be sick w/ him & Patrick Peterson. It’s also gonna be pick your poison on special teams for them as well. For the Rams, Sam Bradford has improved, but I think losing Steven Jackson is gonna hurt them. But, you can never count out a team coached by Jeff Fisher. Expect a low scoring game. The Rams are 4.5 road faves. I like the Cards to steal this one on the road & take the under.

N.Y. Giants vs Dallas- Both teams have something to prove after missing the playoffs last yr. For the Giants, after winning the super bowl the year before, this wasn’t suppose to happen. Eli Manning had great numbers, but the receiving corps weren’t healthy & the defense was knocked down a lil. Ths yr, they gave Victor Ortiz a new contract, but said goodbye to Ahmad Bradshaw & Osi Umeynora. Can Hakeem Nicks ever stay healthy? We want to know. For the Cowboys, they gave Tony Romo a new contract & everyone lost their mind. I don’t think he deserved it. How can you give someone who’s been in the league for like 9 yrs & has only 1 playoff win a $55 mil signing bonus? He’s their version of Carmelo Anthony. It’s a big one in the NFC East. The Cowboys are a fg home fave. I got the G-Man to win & cover the spread. Can’t wait to see your reaction to this Letty Bear.

Monday

Philadelphia vs Washington- The return of RGIII!! Everyone in the DC area has been waiting to see this since he tore his ACL last yr in the wild card game. He & Alfred Morris were the keys for that squad last yr. They were ready to fire Shanahan til they got on that magical run last yr. For the Eagles, goodbye Andy Reid, hello Chip Kelly! Chip bounced from Oregon because some ish was gonna hit the fan like Pete did when SC got busted. They restructured Vick’s contract & brought in a new offense. High octane, but lost a weapon when Jermey Maclin tore his MCL. I was surprised they kept Riley Cooper afer his nigger quotes.  A great Monday night start on their doubleheader night. The Redskins are a fg home fave. The electricity is gonna be packed & RGIII’s return is must see. I like the Redskins to win this game

Houston vs San Diego- the final game of the night.. For the Texans, like the Bengals, they still have to make baby steps. They need to advance to the conference title game to get the league’s attention. They have an octane offense w/ Schaub, Arian Foster,  Andre Johnson & Owen Daniels & the defense is up there, especially when you have J.J. Watt. For the Chargers, new regime let Norv go & Phillip Rivers will have to prove the doubters wrong. He puts up numbers, but he has that moment to throw that crucial turnover in the wrong time & can Ryan Matthews play up to his potential (fantasy football question for me). The Texans are 3.5 road faves. I like the Texans & the over.
