week 8 preview!!

Romo already beat Eli in week 1, can he do it again?

What a crazy week we had in the NFL! We saw the Giants defense praising RG III after they beat the Redskins, the Ravens starting life after Ray Lewis by getting punked by the Texans, Josh Gordon having a potential game winning td drop in his hands for my Browns vs the Colts, Rex having the Jets played scared in their final possession vs the Pats, Carolina firing their GM, & N’Daminque Suh body slamming Jay Cutler. Plus, I’m on a 2 game slide in fantasy football (thanks for no showing Monday night Megatron), but I have to bounce back. Like the rest of the league, let’s see what this week has for us.

Thursday

Tampa Bay vs Minnesota- The Bucs are looking to get that last minute controversial loss to the Saints. It was back & forth & they had tied the game w/ no time left w/ a td, but replays showed that Vincent Jackson was pushed out of the back of the end zone & he was ineligible to catch the ball. For the Vikes, another defensive win for them vs the Cards and Adrian Peterson scored his 1st td since week 1 . He’s back to his old self since that injury. It may come down to if Ponder or Freeman makes less mistakes. The Vikes are 6.5 home faves. I like the Vikes & take the under

Carolina vs Chicago- In the words of Cam Newton, something needs to change. Well, apparently, it did. The gm got fired & rumors of them cutting players are running rapid. Last week, they had a dismal performance in the loss vs Dallas. Their problem is they can’t run the ball & the league finally figured out Cam. For the Bears, another defensive beatdown to their opponents on Monday night, this time their opponent were their divisional rivals the Lions. Charles Tillman is probably putting in his case for defensive player of the yr w/ his shutdown coverage on Calvin Johnson. Other than the 49ers, the Bears are a complete team, whether it’s offense or defense. Jay Cutler didn’t have any turnovers, so the Bears will go as far as Cutler goes. I feel sorry for Cam this week. The Bears are 9 pt home faves. I got the Bears & the over.

San Diego vs Cleveland- The Chargers are hoping they can shake that Monday night choke job when they face my Browns. My Browns last week lost a heartbreaker in Indy. Trent Richardson’s ribs is still hurting him, but Brandon Weeden has improved in my eyes & Josh Gordon is looking like that big play receiver the Browns need in the future. However, some fans wished they fired Shumur after that bone headed decision to punt on 4th & 1 w/ 6 mins left while down by 4. The look on new owner Jimmy Haslem’s face is priceless. The Chargers are 1 pt road faves. I like the Browns by a fg because the Chargers are like the Steelers west, playing down to their comp.

Randy:

Seattle vs Detroit- The Lions offense needs to get on track this week because if they thought the Bears defense was imtidated, just wait til he meets that Seahawks defense. I know they saw what they did to Aaron Rodgers on Monday night 3 weeks ago (6 sacks in the 1st half) & even though they lost to the 49ers on Thursday, they played them close. Also, memo to Matthew Stafford & the offensive line, protect him & look to Calvin Johnson’s way more. Expect a defensive stand-off in Ford Field. The Lions are 1 pt home faves. I like the Lions by a field goal.

Randy:

Jackonsville vs Green Bay- The Packers are looking light-out after 2 straight performances versus the Texans & Rams. However, they’re gonna have to go w/out Charles Woodson for a month since he hurt his collarbone. For the Jags, they not only lost to the Raiders in ot, but Maurice Jones Drew sprained his foot & is not available for this game. That means that Blaine Gabbert, who got hurt as well & probably will play, will have to go pass heavy & find a way to carve up that secondary. The Packers are 13 pt home faves. I like the Pack & the over.

Randy:

Miami vs NY Jets- The Jets & Dolphins meet up for round 2, this time it’s @ Met Life Stadium. Last time these 2 met, the Jets won in ot, but lose Darelle Revis for the season when he tore his acl. Last week, the Jets played their hearts out in New England & still lost. Sanchez passed for over 300 yds, but made crucial mistakes down the stretch in ot. The Dolphins are coming off their bye week w/ a 3-3 record, so this game is important in the AFC East. The Jets are a pt home fave. I like the Jets by a fg (got you Havana gf)

Randy:

Atlanta vs Philadelphia- The Falcons head into Philly hoping to remain undefeated after this game. Both teams are coming off their bye weeks, but the Eagles will play their 1st game since firing Juan Castillo as their defensive coordinator. Usually, Andy Reid & the team peak after the bye week, but they have to be gangbusters now & Michael Vick needs to hold on the ball more, no more turnovers. The Eagles are a pt home fave. I like the Falcons straight up

Randy:

Washington vs Pittsburgh- Last week, the Redskins lost a battle to the Giants, but RG III earned the props from J.P.P., Usi, & Tuck in that game. The Steelers had to tough out a road win in Cincy, but won’t have Polamalu again this week. I wonder if Mendehall & Redman would be available for this week as well. I hope that RG III gets praised from Woodley & Harrison after this game. The Steelers are 4.5 home faves. I like the Redskins to pull an upset & the points since the wack & yellow play down to their comp & to Redskins Nation, welcome back Chris Cooley.

Noez:

Randy:

New England vs St Louis- The Pats won a close game in ot vs the Jets last week, but Tom Brady isn’t impressed w/ the team’s performance while the Rams ran into a bulldozer named the Green Bay Packers. Nothing to break down this much for the game. Just the Pats are looking to click on offense & put up points & be that dominating team they use to be. The Pats are a td road fave. I like the Pats by 10

Noez:

Randy:

Indianapolis vs Tennessee- Believe or not, Chris Johnson’s back. He’s had 2 straight dominating games, especially last week when he exploded for 194 on the Bills & they won. It must be also the Matt Hasselback effect as well because his number s are up w/ him compared to Lockler’s, who is still recovering from his injury. For the Colts, they have surpassed last yr win total & Andrew Luck is bringing life to that team. Last week, it was his feet that hurt my Browns. Plus, they are 2-1 for Bruce Arians, who’s reliving Pagano’s coaching duties as he recovers from leukima (#chuckstrong). The Titans are 3.5 home faves. I like the Titans by a Bironas fg.

Randy:

Oakland vs Kansas City- The nastiest rivalry that ever existed in the AFC West, dating back to the AFL, resumes this week in Kansas City. The Raiders are coming off an ot win vs Jacksonville while the Chiefs are coming off their bye week, but made some news by naming Brady Quinn starter this week. I know Romeo Crennel knows Quinn’s history back in Cleveland, but that offense goes through Jamal Charles & if he’s not clicking, there goes their game. It also doesn’t hurt that Dwayne Bowe aka Optimus Prime (word to Steven Rojo Jr.) wants to be traded. Expect a lot of penalties since both teams are penalized a lot. The Chiefs are a pt home fave. I like the Raiders straight up.

Noez: Oak

Randy:

NY Giants vs Dallas- The Giants are looking for payback for that week 1 loss as they go into Jerry’s house this week. Both teams are coming off wins, the Giants needed another Eli 4th qtr miracle to defeat the Redskins while the Cowboys had an ugly win in Carolina, but lost Sean Lee for the season & won’t have De Marco Murrary for this week’s game. It’s an divisional battle, so expect a lot of hard hitting & penalties. If it comes down to the 4th qtr, you already know who America believes in: ELI!!!!!! The G-Man are a pt road fave. I like the Giants by a td (payback on your Cowgirls Letty bear)

Randy:

New Orleans vs Denver- Drew Brees vs Peyton Manning. Nuff said. The Saints are coming off a nailbiting win in Tampa while the Broncos had a week to soak in that comeback win on Monday night football vs the Chargers. Both are future hall of famers & love to air out the ball, so expected their total yds to equal miles from L.A. to San Francisco. The only difference for these teams are the defense & the Broncos have a better defense than the Saints. The Broncos are 6 pts home faves. That sounds right. I like the Broncos & the points.

Monday

San Francisco vs Arizona- The NFC West is showcased for this Monday night affair. That division is competive & both defenses are tight to death. The 49ers are coming off a tough win @ home vs the Seahawks while the Cards just were popped in the mouth by the Vikings. Like the Bears, the 49ers are like the mirror image w/ the running game, defense, & will go as far as Alex Smith will take them. The Cards has the tools, but the quarterback situation is the issue & what running back is healthy. Expect a low scoring affair. The Niners are a td road faves. Sounds right. Take the 49ers straight up.

Last week, Randy continued his dominace in these pick’em w/ an amazing 12-1 record while I had a 9-3 showing w/ Noez getting 1 win, but forgot to send the rest of his picks. We need to knock Randy off his pedestal. Happy b-day shoutouts to Amber Vera, Joseph Anderson, Brian Good, AbdeyBebe, Michelle Perez, Javon Liu, Gina Olmedo (still miss you), Natalie Garcia, & Laina Gomez. To my boy Screws (enjoy your time back in New York & can’t wait for blogs again), prayers for my buddy Sean Quintana (ceo of Luxury Soul), who’s aunt is in the hospital & to Leticia Robinson, keep up the good work. Next week, the NBA starts (Let’s go Lakers, bring title no. 17) & I catch up w/ everybody then & have a safe Halloween. Peace!!
