It’s Kickoff time

It’s that time of yr. Does your team have a chance of the title? We’ll find out in 4 months

Once again, it’s on. That time of year when the men get their 11 hrs of silence while some of the significant others(wives, girlfriends) have to put up w/ it. Yes, I’m talking bout football season. The NFL starts in 3 days & we have some interesting storylines. Some are very important to the league (referee lockouts: get a deal done already) while some are team related (5 teams starting rookie qbs). The fans get 4 months of rooting their team for that ultimate goal which is the Lombardi trophy. With that said, let’s break down week 1.

Wednesday

Dallas vs N.Y. Giants- The season kicks off on a Wednesday because of the Democratic National Convention & didn’t want a conflict of interest of an Obama speech. The champs get to open @ home vs their divisional rivals. The Giants had been under the radar because the Jets stole all their media attention in the New York area & they love it. The Cowboys on the other hand come into the season w/ some problems whether it’s Dez Bryant & his rules or Jason Witten’s spleen problem. Witten will play this game. I hope we have a great game. Eli vs Romo. Which qb will make an impact & what defense will show up? It’s under the lights, so expect great ratings. I like the Giants in a close game (sorry Letty Bear, champs never lose that opening game)

Indianapolis vs Chicago- The Andrew Luck era begins in a tough test when he goes against the Bears in Soldier Field. He’s living the hype so far in the preseason, but like they say, it’s preseason. The Bears are reloaded offensively w/ Brandon Marshall & Michael Bush to go along w/ Jay Cutler & Matt Forte, both coming off injuries & Forte getting paid. We already know bout the defense w/ Urlacker, Briggs, & company. I like the Bears to pop the balloon on Luck’s party. Bears by 6

Philadelphia vs Cleveland- 2 of my favorite teams kick off the season in my hometown. The Eagles are looking to improve after finishing 8-8 last season. That was the season they went “Miami Heat” on the league, buying talent hoping to win a super bowl, but came up short. My Browns are starting young w/ their 1st round picks starting in rookie qb in Brandon Weeden & banking their hopes on Trent Richardson, their major pick. He didn’t play this preseason recovering from surgery on his knee, but is optimistic to play in week 1. I love both teams & my heart wants to say the Browns, but reality it has to be the Eagles by 2 tds.

St Louis vs Detroit- The Rams begin the Jeff Fisher era in the Motor City when they face the Lions. Bradford & Steven Jackson are hoping that Fisher can rub that winning magic on them while the Lions want to prove their play-off appearance won’t be a fluke. Bradfor broke a vessel in his non throwing arm, but will be ready for this game. I know my 1st round pick in fantasy football & Madden 13 cover boy Calvin Johnson is looking to go in beastmode & that defensive is looking to eat on Rams players. I like the Lions by 10

Randy:

Miami vs Houston- The Dolphins are hoping the “Hard Knocks” reality of having a winless preseason doesn’t effect their regular season. It started w/ them signing Chad Johnson, then releasing him after his arrest of domestic abuse. It continue w/ them naming Ryan Tanehill their starting qb over Matt Moore, who thought would get the job after Garrard got hurt in training camp. Let’s see what this rookie does. For the Texans, they are coming off a divisional title & winning their 1st playoff game in franchise history. T.J Yates did a nice job filling in for Matt Schaub when he got hurt. Now Schaub’s back along w/ Arian Foster (loving the ESPN Monday night commercial bro), Andre Johnson, & Owen Daniels, they are looking for that next step. I like the Texans by 14.

Randy:

Atlanta vs Kansas City- The Falcons start their season in Kansas City & Matt Ryan hope he gets another crack in the postseason & this time probably win a playoff game. He has the weapons in Tuner, Roddy White, Julio Jones, & Tony Gonzalez, who hopes to get that ring in his final season. The defense got a boost in acquiring Asante Samuel in a trade. The Chiefs hope their opening start doesn’t start like last yr when they lost Jamal Charles & Eric Berry within the 1st 2 weeks & eventually Matt Cassel joined them on the injured list. They’re back & Peyton Hillis along w/ Dwayne Bowe aka Optimus Prime can get them in the postseason. It’s a toss-up, but I like the Falcons to win a close one in Arrowhead.

Randy:

Jacksonville vs Minnesota- Maurice Jones Drew finally ends his holdout, but at what cost. He missed the whole preseason, but he thinks it won’t affect him the regular season (ask Chris Johnson bout holding out). The Vikings are hoping that a returning Adrian Peterson can get them wins & support along w/ Percy Harvin for Christian Ponder. Both teams are relying on their running backs to carry them this season. I like the Vikings by a field goal since Jones Drew will have a hard time adjusting to the team.

Randy:

Washington vs New Orleans- The RG III era kicks off in the Superdome. Both teams have storylines w/Griffin being the face of the Redskins’ future while the Saints had to deal w/ Bountygate & the results of it which included a yr suspension for Coach Sean Payton & Jonathan Vilma. We almost forgot bout Drew Brees struggle to finally get a new contract after shattering Marino’s td record last yr. It has a feel of a college game w/ these quarterbacks so expecting a mini shootout. I like the Saints to win because of all the problems they have to deal w/ this season

Randy:

Buffalo vs N.Y. Jets- The other team in the New York gets to open @ home vs the Bills. The Jets had all those distractions whether it’s Tebow, Cromatire & his claim to being the 2nd best receiver on the Jets roster, or their struggle to score a td in the postseason. The Bills had a quiet preseason, but Fitzpatrick got his extension last season & hopes to put up better numbers along w/ Stevie Johnson. Both teams are looking to stay away from the cellar in the AFC east. If Sanchez thinks the Jets offense can turn around, I hope he’s right. I like the Jets in a close one (got you again Havana gf & by the time I post this blog, you’ll probably have your gift).

New England vs Tennessee- The Pats start their season in Tennessee hoping to return to the Super Bowl & win it all this time. The offseason was crazy for them. Both of their star tight ends (Gronk & Aaron Hernandez) signed their contract while Wes Welker hasn’t got an extension yet, but signed his 1 yr tender. Also, Brady was taking a beating in the preseason because the offensive line is new. They hope the defense improves because they went defense happy in the draft. The Titans are banking on Jake Locklear to lead them & Matt Hasselback is a g because he’s taking the demoting w/ class. Chris Johnson is hoping to getting back to CJ2K while they should be happy Kenny Britt’s getting only a game suspension for his dui. My upset special, I like the Titans by a Bironas fg

Randy: Titans

Seattle vs Arizona- Let the Russell Wilson begin. He beat out Matt Flynn for the & did it so impressively that they traded Tavaris Jackson to Buffalo for cash. Now, who’s going to be his main target. T.O. was released as well as Kellen Winslow. I guess it’s Wilson to Marshawn Lynch out the flats. The Cards had a tough decision for their starting qb & it resulted w/ John Skelton over Kevin Kolb. Kolb’s been overated since Philly drafted him in the 3rd round. It’s a divisional game, so expect a lot of hard hitting. I like the Seahwaks to steal this game in Arizona by a field goal.

Randy:

San Francisco vs Green Bay- The game of the day & possible NFC title game preview. Both teams were the top seeds in the NFC last yr & are looking to reach that goal for the title. The Packers finished 15-1 in the regular season only to lose to the Giants in their 1st playoff game while the Niners reached the conference title game, only to lose a heart fought game to the Giants as well in ot. The Packers were defensive minded in the draft by picking Nick Perry out of USC & did an interesting move by moving Charles Woodson to safety. The 49ers have that tough defense, but made some offensive moves by drafting LeMichael James from Oregon in the 2nd round & signed Randy Moss to be that tall receiver needed in the red zone. If any team can steal a game in Lambeau, I like the Niners chances. I got the 49ers by a fg

Randy:

Carolina vs Tampa Bay- Year 2 of the Cam Newton era begins in Tampa. He was all the hype & then some last yr as a rookie. He hopes he doesn’t hit the rookie wall. As for the Bucaneeers, they have a new coach, Freeman’s looking to rebound from a subpar yr & Blount was demoted to back-up, but will be a factor in close games in the 4th qtr. Another divisional game, so expect a close one. I like the Panthers to sneak a close game out.

Pittsburgh vs Denver: Peyton Manning gets to start his Broncos regular season debut in a major way. It’s vs the Steelers & it’s nationally televised on NBC. The Steelers are going in different way, hiring a new offensive coordinator & going into a run oriented offesnse. I know Roethesberger loves to pass the ball because Mendehall is a joke as a running back, but he better get use to it. Also, Mike Wallace returned from his holdout & yet still hasn’t gotten a new contract. Last time these two teams played, it was the wild card game & Tebow to Thomas on the 1st play sent the Steelers fishing in the offseason. I hate both teams, but I have to choose a winner. I see the Broncos because of the Peyton Manning effect.

Monday

Cincinnati vs Baltimore: An AFC north clash kicks off the 1st game of the Monday night football doubleheader. Both teams made the postseason last yr. The Bengals caught everyone’s attention last yr & no one did it better than Andy Dalton & A.J. Green. It was like rebuilding from Carson Palmer to Chad Johnson to these two young guns. Cedric Benson had a great yr, but they signed BenJarvus Green Ellis from the Pats, meaning adieus to Benson, who ended up in Green Bay. The Ravens won the divison & were close to going to the super bowl when Cudiff missed that gimmie & it probably was the result of his being release. They’re hoping that Flacco can be an elite qb & Ray Rice is worth that money they gave him. As long as you have Ray Lewis & Ed Reed on defense, you’re good, but it sucks that T-Sizzle’s going to miss some time after tearing his acl playing basketball. It’s gonna be a defensive battle & I like the Ravens to win a close one at home.

Randy:

San Diego vs Oakland- An AFC west battle concludes the Monday night doubleheader & the week 1 schedule. The Chargers finished 8-8 last yr & it’s Super Bowl for Norv, Rivers, & the crew. The Raiders also finished 8-8, but fired Hue Jackson after his 1st yr. They got a new coach & new gm to replace the late Al Davis. Carson Palmer had a full training camp & they hope that a healthy Darren McFadden can lead them to the postseason. He pretty missed the rest of the season after a turf toe injury. They were postseason bound til he got hurt. Expect a lot of hard hitting. They split the regular season last yr. I like the Raiders to win this home game because Ryan Matthews being injured hurts the Chargers’ pounding game (what up Mega 7981)

Noez: Raiders
