Can Dwight Howard follow in the tradition of great Laker bigs & win rings? We’ll find out this upcoming season

August 9, 2012. A day in Laker Nation eternity. The day the power shifted back to the winningest granchise along w/ the Boston Celtics in NBA history. They got the guy the fans been wanting for the last 2 yrs. Dwight Howard, the 6-11 center whose mega watt smile reminds people of Magic Johnson & defensive presence of Bill Russell, will carry on the tradition of great Laker centers from George Mikan, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, & Shaquille O’ Neal. In order to get Howard, the Lakers had to part ways w/ Andrew Bynum, another center who they were grooming to be the next great big man in Lakers history. He had an all-star yr last season, but his injury problems & immature diva issues were the things that drove Laker fans away from liking the guy. I wish him nothing but the best in Philly. The best part about the deal was two things: 1) Pau Gasol wasn’t part of the deal & stays a Laker & 2) David Stern aka Hitler couldn’t vetoed the deal. However, we have questions to linger. We don’t know when Dwight will be available since he’s recovering from back surgery & will he sign an extension after the season. However, the starting 5 of him, Gasol, Metta World Peace, Steve Nash, & Kobe Bryant will a dangerous force to be reckon with & the moves Jim Buss & Mitch Kupchak have made this offseason has put them along w/ the champs Miami Heat & Oklahoma City Thunder as favorites for the NBA title. Another thing that caught my attention was that Kobe said he was willing to pass the torch to Dwight as the Lakers’ franchise player after he’s gone. Funny that he said because Shaq was willing to do that while they were together. It took Pat Riley to tell Kareem that Magic’s the man in 1987 & he never had no problem w/ that. I can’t wait for the season to start. Lebron better enjoy that asterisk ring because it’s gonna be a while before he gets another ring.

That’s my time for this blog. Before I break out, gotta give shout outs to my boy Danny Anderson aka D-Side for the birth of his new son Dylan Anderson (congrats to you & Vanessa) and another shout out to Raquel Lay, who’s walking the aisle today (one love). Congrats to the Mexico national soccer team for winning the gold medal this morning as well as the .U.S female basketball team. Good luck to the guys tomorrow vs Spain. Shout out to Screws (make sure you check out his blog “Screws U”) & I catch up w/ ya’ll when the NFL regular season starts (Randy & Noez better be ready to picks this yr). Peace out
