Week 8 picks: halfway point!!

Posted: October 28, 2011 by djplaymaker in NFL, zuncategorized

So we have reached the halfway point of the season & we have some surprises to this season. Last week, we saw a star in the making in Christian Ponder, Tim Tebow leading the Broncos to a comeback win, despite his piss poor passer rating, two quarterbacks not reaching the century mark in passing yardage, Carson Palmer & Kyle Boiler making history that they aren’t proud of & the Saints scoring 62 pts on the Colts. I wonder what week 8 has in store for us, but we know one thing: The Packers are still undefeated. This week bye victims are the Jets (kick your feet up Havana girlfriend), Raiders (redeem yourselves after that performance), Packers, Falcons, Bucaneers, & the Bears. Let’s get to breakdown shall we!!

Sunday

Indianapolis vs Tennesse- The Colts are coming off an embarrassing ass-whipping by the hands on the Saints while the Titans were popped in the mouth @ home by the Texans, especially Arian Foster. The Colts’ loss was so bad that they were saying Jim Caldwell is in the hot seat. Leave that man alone. He was dealt w/ a bad hand when Peyton Manning got hurt. That whole team is shot. The Titans are having issues w/ Chris Johnson’s struggles. In my opinion, that lockout screwed him up. The Titans are 9 pt faves @ home

Playmaker- The Titans will redeem themselves. I take them & go over the spread

Jacksonville vs Houston- Congrats to Gabbert for picking up his 1st win on Monday. He was one of the quarterbacks that didn’t reach over 100 yds passing (he gets a pass because he’s a rookie). The Jags won w/ Maurice Jones Drew rushing over 100 yds despite 3 fumbles. The Texans are coming off an impressive win in Tennessee w/ Foster having over 100 yds rushing & receiving & Ben Tate contributing w/ 100 yds rushing . They will be pumped now that Andre Johnson has returned to practice, so that helps them offensively. The Texans are 9 pt faves @ home.

Playmaker: I like the Texans to win & cover the spread. They got their weapons back.

Minnesota vs Carolina- A good rookie match-up at quarterback as Christian Ponder makes his 2nd start, but this time he faces the exciting Cam Newton. The Vikings are coming off a close loss to Green Bay, but Ponder was impressive. It doesn’t hurt that Adrian Peterson went over 100 yds rushing as well. The Panthers are coming off their win vs the Redskins. Cam had over 200 yds passing & believe or not, he’s brought life back into Steve Smith. The Panthers are a 3pt fave @ home

Playmaker: For some reason, I like the Vikings to steal one in Carolina & cover that spread. I love Cam since he’s on my f.f team, but it may come down to who dominates the running game between Peterson & Jonathan Stewart & Deangelo Williams.

New Orleans vs St. Louis- The Saints are still flying high after that beatdown they gave the Saints. Brees was impressive & Jimmy Grahmn is the real deal. The Rams were just punked by the Cowboys, especially Demarco Murrary going over 200 yds rushing on them. It was bad enough that Sam Bradford didn’t play that game & he’s questionable for this game. The Saints are 13 pt road faves.

Playmaker: too much fire power from the Saints. I like them to win & win big

Arizona vs Baltimore- The Ravens lost an ugly game on Monday in Jacksonville. It was so bad that T-Sizzle pretty much threw the offensive coordinator under the bus, asking about what was the game plan. The Cardinals were outplayed by the Steelers in their own house. Beanie Wells got injured in that game, but he’s hoping to play in this game. The Ravens are 13 pt home faves.

Playmaker: I like the Ravens to redeem themselves from the fiasco on Monday. Taking the over as well.

Miami vs NY Giants- The Dolphins should be ashamed of themselves. How do you blow a 15 pt lead @ home to Denver & Tebow was playing like shit? However, Sparano got the dread vote of confidence. However, he’s on thin ice. The Giants are coming off the bye week. So expect them to ready & pumped. The G-man are 10 pt home faves.

Playmaker- I like the Giants to win, but the 10 pt spread is kinda low. Take the over.

Washington vs Buffalo- The Bills have their annual trip to Toronto aka Drizzy Drake’s hometown to face the Redskins. The Bills are coming off their bye week & Ryan Fitzpatrick got a contract extension during that week, so congrats to him. The Redskins are coming off a loss to the Panthers. In that loss, they lost Santana Moss & he’s out for 5-7 weeks. It got worse that Chris Cooley had to shut it down for the season thanks to Nmandi breaking his hand two weeks ago. At least Beck looked impressive in his 1st start. The Bills are 6 pt faves in neutral territory, but they are the home team.

Playmaker- I like the Bills to circle the wagons this game. I like them to cover the spread as well

Detroit vs Denver- The Lions are coming back to reality after their 2nd straight loss, this time to the Falcons. Apparently, they haven’t taking losing very well as Ndaminque Suh had to pop off about calling it “karma” after Matt Ryan suffered an injury by his own lineman stepping on him. The Broncos & Tebow should thank the Dolphins for choking to get that win. It was ugly, but a win’s a win. The Lions are 3pt road faves. I think the reason for that was because of the condition of Matthew Strafford after suffering his injury, however Jahvid Best is out for this game since he hasn’t been cleared from his concussion.

Playmaker: I want the Lions to win because of my hatred of Tebow

New England vs Pittsburgh: The Steelers feel like they got their mojo back after they spanked the Cardinals. However, this is their 2nd true test this season. They already failed the 1st one in week 1 vs the Ravens. The Patriots are coming off their bye week, which Brady & company are ready for that stretch run. Brady is 6-1 in his last 7 starts vs the Black & Yellow. Expect an offensive explosion. The Pats are 3 pt road faves.

Playmaker: I hate both teams, but if I had a choice between these two evils, I like the Pats since Brady has their number & go slightly over the spread.

Cleveland vs San Francisco- My Browns are coming off an ugly 6-3 win vs the Seahawks. In that game, Montario Hardesty aka Mr. Stone Hands ran 33 times for 95 yds. The 49ers are coming off their bye week & gained ground in the NFC west by all their divisional rivals losing last week. In my opinion, they are the talk of the league & finally getting their props. Harbaugh has turned that team around & pretty much has tuned Alex Smith into Trent Dilfer w/ his game managing. The 49ers are 9 pt home faves

Playmaker: I got a couple friends who are 49er fans & I’m giving their team props, however I gotta roll w/ the hometown team to pull an upset in Candlestick & take the under.

Randy:49ers

Cincinnati vs Seattle- The Seahwaks are coming off that 6-3 loss to my Browns last week. In that game, Charlie Whitehurst was the other quarterback who didn’t pass for over 100 yds. The Bengals are coming off the bye week & probably were laughing their asses off after Carson Palmer’s debut w/ the Raiders. They were thinking who needs Palmer when we got Dalton. For some reason, Carroll hopes he can get Tavaris
Jackson back as his starting qb. The Bengals are 3 pt road faves.

Playmaker- I like the Bengals to win & take the over

Randy:Bengals

Dallas vs Philadelphia- The Cowboys & DeMarco Murrary are coming off a victory vs the Rams as he went over 200 yds rushing. Plus Tony Romo, the expecting father didn’t have to do much. The Eagles are coming off the bye week & Asante Samuel pretty much voiced his opinion about being in trade rumors. He says he’s cool now & it was in the heat of the moment. He knew he was the odd man out when they signed Nmandi & traded for DRC. One thing we know about Andy Reid is that his teams reloaded & pick up after the bye week. The Eagles are 3 pt home faves

Playmaker- This is do or die for the “dream team” Reid will have the team ready. I like the Eagles to win & cover as well. Hate on this Letty Bear!!

Monday

San Diego vs Kansas City- The Chargers & Chiefs get to play trick or treat w/ each other in this Monday night affair. The Chargers are coming off that choke job in Met Life stadium vs the Jets while the Chiefs are suddenly getting their mojo back after starting off 0-3. Now they’re 3-3. Last week, their defense picked them up by causing 6 ints, 3 each from Kyle Boiler & Carson Palmer(talk about a debut there). This is a divisional battle, so expect a lot of hard hitting & penalties. The Chargers are a field goal faves on the road.

Playmaker: This is a big game in the divison. I like the Chiefs to win & cover @ home. They beat them last yr @ Arrowhead on Monday night

Randy:Chiefs total pts 42

That’s my time for this week. Happy b-day shoutouts to my old accomplice Gina Olmedo, Natalie Garcia, & Laina Gomez!!. I also want to wish everyone a safe Halloween!! I see everyone next week. Peace!!
