A Los Angeles nightmare

What happened to L.A.'s 2nd favorite team?

Oh how this summer is looking! I know in the city of palm trees & sunshine aka Los Angeles, we the fans are use to sucess & winning. However, this summer hasn’t gone very well for the local sports. The Lakers’ quest for sending Phil Jackson out w/ a bang w/ his 4th 3-peat was derailed by the eventual champion Dallas Mavericks. Now, the ish just hit the fan literally as Frank McCourt, who along w/ his estranged wife Jamie, owned the team since 2007, has turned a great franchise w/ great tradition into a laughigstock. If you haven’t been living under a rock the last 2 days, you must know that he filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy? Now, I’m not that much of a Dodger fan (Yankees’ fan here), but I feel bad for the boys in blue. Great history since their days in Brooklyn w/ Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, & Roy Campenlella. Then, they relocated out west to Los Angeles in 1947 & had Southern California’s attention & the names the fans fell in love with: Koufax, Drysdale, Willis, Cey, Lopes, Garvey. You name it, they had it. Hell, even Feranando-mania ran rapid in the early 80’s. They were a name brand like the Yanks.

Now, as this bankruptcy happens, the fans finally got to see what shrewd owners the McCourts are. 1st of all, they’re not local bred as they are from Boston. 2nd, they liked living the lavish life as them owning complexs showed. 3rd, he was a broke owner. He had to borrow money to purchase the team & treated the team as his personal ATM. I swear, whoever he borrowed money from, should had gone into bookie mode. You know, threaten to break his fingers if he doesn’t pay the loan on time or else. Speaking of borrowing, he’s in a $500 million debt & still owes money to ex Dodgers Manny Ramirez ($21 million) & Andruw Jones ($11 mil). They’re losing 7, 000 fans a night in attendance. Pretty much, the ship sinked when Bryan Stow got attacked in the parking lot on opening day. The last 3 yrs, they averaged 3.5 mil in attendance. They can kiss that goodbye

Now as for potential names to own the team, the people’s choice out here in Los Angeles is Mark Cuban. However, there is one problem: MLB hates his guts. Twice, he had opportunities to purchase a MLB franchise, but he’s been shutdown, 1st by the Cubs, then last yr by the Texas Rangers. However, he matured in the public eye this yr by staying quiet during the Mavs’ run for the title. However, Jerry Reinsdorf, who owns both the Chicago White Sox & the Chicago Bulls of the NBA, doesn’t like the fact he’s like a me me person & it’ll be like George Steinbrenner all over again. Other names I’ve heard are Orel Hershiser & Steve Garvey in a joint venture & Dennis Gilbert. If I had a choice, I would like to see Cuban own the team. He deserves it & will spend the money to bring talent to the team. I mean, throughout the drama, Matt Kemp’s having a MVP season & I think he can win the triple crown. You know the season’s dismal when Steve Soboroff resigned after two months on the job as vice chairman. The fans aren’t coming to the games & I don’t blame them.

I know I could go all day of Dodger bashing, however I leave that to the pros. So that’s my time. For my Dodger fans & anti-Dodger fans in the Southern California, if you would like to leave feedback or your own opinion, you can leave it @ either my facebook page @ facebook.com/djplaymaker10 or @ the site which is neithwerworldradio.wordpress.com. Til then, i’m out. Peace!!
